Something as simple as a balloon flying off and you can create a wild adventure. If only more parents were open to listening to their children’s stories.
This is Calvin’s way of being the high and the mighty (I can still hear that whistler!). Sometimes Spaceman Spiff is not enough; pure unfettered flight is the kind of freedom he craves. Recapturing later in adult life the mind that’s in Calvin usually requires someone like…well, like James Thurber’s Walter Mitty. And now, for my next scenario….
It’s good to see his father appreciating Calvin’s flights of fancy. There’s still no need for mom to humor him to the point of agreeing to the velcro plan.
That last panel always confused me- does the mom’s line come first or dad’s line? Traditionally it’s read left to right, but the dialogue sounds more natural to me if it’s read mom, dad, Calvin.

Too bad the the gravity returned when you got to Phoenix; you probably had to pay for the flight back..I like the way Dad is handing this.

This reminds me of of Glenn Campbell. “By the time I got to Phoenix…” .

One of my favorites. This is the result of all the tall tales his dad tells him.

@leftwingpatriotThanks but being reminded of it was sufficient. He does remind me of how Jerry Garcia looked in 1967.

Calvin seems to spend more time in the air than on the ground.Just as long as they’re careful for enemy pilots…

Maybe it’s a comment on the gassy nature of Mom’s cooking.

I don’t think Dad wants Mom to velcro Calvin’s clothes either. oer
SunflowerGirl100 about 8 years ago
Mom could sew one tiny patch of Velcro. Soon Calvin would be complaining about how inconvenient it was and telling her to take it off!

Nice that he hitched a tow on a good old B727 — my favorite airplane. (retired airline pilot)
