Dad: Alice! Come here! Quick! Alice: What? Dad: Look what's on TV! A fish-slapping bear! Alice: Oh. They're boring. I like pangolins. Dad: You whu huh?
I want a pangolin, too! I have SIX big anthills near our house - we tried walking in forest and couldn’t find an antless spot for it! I was ready to bet that even the paths are made just by ants.
I wonder what Alice reads that led to her new interest, pangolins (scaly anteaters)? I used to like to read the encyclopedia as a wee lad; gave me all sorts of ideas….
Sysyphos, I only had a “Children’s Enc.” in our house (back in the 40s) but I had a really good big dictionary and used to reference words back and forth as I studied etymology in 3rd and 4th grade. I have continued my study of the origins of language. As a re-creator of the Middle Ages, I really have enhanced the study. The only non human creatures that really interest me are birds

A fickle four-year-old? Are there any other kinds of four-year-olds?

Ew. Alice, I’d stick with the fish-slapping bears if I were you. Lot cuter than a pangolin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pangolin

I’ve never heard of pangolins until now. After seeing what it looks like, I’d stick with the fish-slapping bear.

I love Pangolins! They walk on two legs like little old men.

Ah, the fleeting interests of a child. Granted, it’s a child who knows what pangolins are!

sad to think that Pangolins (scaly anteaters) are yet another victim of the Asian “let’s eat whatever’s weird until it’s extinct” mindset

Pangolins somehow remind me of Pokemons.
