Transcript:
Captain Eddie: Soon the mastahs of cynical commerce will realize that they can't fight the Ekert, that what they need is its countah-balance... they'll go in search of "the one"... someone who can negate the Ekert's irresistible force of niceness by bein' an immovable object of apathy... Danae: OK, why do you guys just assume it might be me?! Flo: Um... alphabetically or chronologically?
razorback2824 about 14 years ago
She is the Mary Sue of this strip. She has so much apathy and bitterness that the Ekert will explode trying to absorb it all.
Sisyphos about 14 years ago
No! Danae, say it isn’t so! BTW, I like the southern gentleman’s shoulder-cat!
Edcole1961 about 14 years ago
If anyone calls me apathetic, I tell them I don’t care what they think.
Ernest Lemmingway about 14 years ago
The cat’s name is Pauly, BTW.
“Alphabetically?” “Chronologically?” What exactly do either of those things have to do with anything?

I love the closeup in Panel 2.

This is genius, sheer, marvelous creative genius….Wiley Wow…I continue to be amazed…this is not a comic strip, it is high art.

@HighPriestMikhal, It’s just another way of saying, “Where should I begin?”
HowieL about 14 years ago
Well, the diner IS in southern Maine! Besides, the northern Maine accent, up to the County, is different.

Oh good it is a two weeker.
More like a monther (or two). He took a long break from some time over the summer before continuing this story line last week. And before that, it was on a break, from, I forget when! but earlier this year I believe!
If you don’t follow this comic, you should! Otherwise you have to dig up the old ones from the same story line!

“THE ONE”. He who counteracts all goodness with 100% effort. Divisive, exploitive etc. Remind you of someone of power?
Can't Sleep about 14 years ago
They’re wrong - the Anti-Ekert is… DICK CHANEY!
alan.gurka about 14 years ago
treered–that is soo cool! I can keep enlarging it and I can shrink it back down, too!
ububobu about 14 years ago
NightS: You must mean Lon Chaney. Dick Cheney might be the ekert.

Is apathy or ignorance a greater problem today?
“We don’t know, and we don’t care.”
WyattMute about 14 years ago
Yes! I love where this is going!
And I think, naturally, I’m not the only one who wants to see Danae come out on top. A world with no conflict would be boring….Though in all seriousness, some balance would be nice. We’re a little off-kilter these days…
Dtroutma about 14 years ago
Our populace IS basically the immoveable object of apathy, the opposite of the Ekert however would be the OPPOSITE of “niceness”– now that would be Cheney.
My son’s shoulder cat is a silver Bengal, who goes everywhere with him on a leash, even in the pits when he goes racing. She isn’t apathetic, she’s just “a queen”, like Danae.
Frankr about 14 years ago
We should have seen this coming, I guess, knowing Danae.

I admit to being a militant apathetic: I’ll fight for my right not to give a damn.

I don’t see Danae as a Valley Girl. (Mr. Miller’s comment in the last frame.)

I often wish for a way to give votes to strips and to comments too here, but I understand it also keeps trolls away (just not the spammers) :-(
