Transcript:
Lupin: One of our reporters was beaten up by a skunk. Here's Puck with the brave report. Puck: Thanks, Lupin- Elvis: Get our of here! Elvis: I didn't get beat up, it just sprayed me with its butt. Puck: What do you say to claims that you shouldn't have even been on the back porch since we're not allowed on the back porch? Because of skunks. Elvis: I say rules are meant to be broken. Puck: Yeah, but now you're sitting in a tub of tomato soup- Elvis: Tomato juice. Puck: No one knows the difference. Lupin: Lupin here, with an eye witness to the beating who claims to know the skunk! Tommy: Louie? Yeah, I know Louie! Louie's great, if you don't startle him! Louie: Hey, I get startled! Man: Bath time, you goofball!

When did rules ever stop a cat from going where it knows it is not allowed to go?

I live in Hawaii where (thank goodness!) there are no skunks! To my fellow BCN fans, just wondering if any of your fur babies ever “startled” one of Louie’s relatives! Can the smell ever be removed?

“No one knows the difference”! It’s the cat comments like that which make me love this strip!

You can deskunk a cat, there are shampoos available at any pet store. Tomato juice does not work as well as you’d think. The local groomer charges $20 to bathe and deskunk a cat and that seems like a good deal to me. Put one of MY cats in a bucket of juice, The cat will add a new dimension to the word “mess”. And to the word “pain”

Baking soda, peroxide, and dish soap works for skunk spray. I know because we had to de-skunk our cat Simon.

The juice doesn’t get rid of the smell. It just makes you immune to the smell because you notice the tomato smell, and it covers the skunk smell. Everyone who is not by the juice can still smell it.

Our vet recommended baking soda, peroxide aand dish soap as well.

Yep!! Tommy knows him!!

Surprised that Elvis isn’t a hissing spitting ball of claws and teeth, especially with Man doing the scrubbing.BTW, getting skunked is a dog’s trick… most cats have more sense than mess with a skunk.

Another good reason to keep cats inside. Just sayin’. (Georgia must be back at her drawing board. Make my whole day!)

Back when this ran the first time, I asked if it was (shudder) based on personal experience. Georgia responded no, just based on imagining what would happen since at one point there was a skunk under the back porch. She admitted to not being realistic about Elvis and the bath!

Awww!! I’ve missed seeing Louie! I don’t think we see enough of him! :D He is a stinker though. ;p

…one of my all time favorite strips:)…I am really going to miss these single story multi-panels when the new format is in full swing :( – maybe Georgia can do them on Sundays?…

Awww. At my last house, I had a skunk come by every day to eat the sunflower seeds that had fallen from the bird feeder. My cats knew well enough to leave her alone. One day she brought her 4 babies with her. Where I live now, we also have spotted skunks, about the size of a squirrel, and really beautiful. I love skunks! Just think. What a perfect defense. If only we fought wars with a similar one (if we have to have wars at all.) You can use Natures’ Miracle to get rid of the odor.

This is one of my absolute favorites, and every time I look at it I see something I had not noticed before. Today, I noticed Elvis grabbing the mic from puck, and puck making an ok gesture with his paw. Love the undershirt, the sulky elbows on the side of the tub, the whispered aside from pick, Tommy knowing the skunk, and no one being able to discriminate between tomato soup and juice

Reminds me of Pepe Le Pew animations. Some folks have a domesticated skunk pet. Tommy is THE CAT when it comes befriending outsiders. Love the reruns. Missed this one, or forgot it.

Well, actually, after Elvis steeps in that mess for a while you’ll have tomato-cat soup. YECH!!!!

Tommy is one of those blessed creatures who doesn’t have to “look for the best in everybody.” He can see one and all for who and what they are and like them anyhow.

I like tomato juice.

I’m with Gigagrouch—quite surprised Elvis isn’t going all Tazz on The Man.

Their isn’t enough Kevlar on the market to give one of mine a bath in anything! I’d have to seriously anesthetize them.

I had a skunk that came around a few times when I had food out for neighborhood cats. I named him Louie. I stopped putting the food out and didn’t see him again. A couple weeks ago the tortie that comes around was sitting outside my slider as pretty as a picture. I gave her some food and told her to tell Louie it wasn’t for him. :)

We have skunks that wander the apartment grounds before sunrise. Generally when we encounter them on a morning walk we let them go their way and they let us go our way. Sometimes though you smell that “skunk stink”—maybe they went a few rounds with one of the feral cats that haunt the grounds…
