What Koran burning? One small bunch of wackjobs says they’re going to burn Korans, and suddenly it’s the Crusades all over again (even though the vast majority of the violence of the Crusades was practiced against Europeans in Europe).

If you lived in the Middle East, you’d be more aware of all the “honor killings” where women and girls are killed by their own fathers, brothers, uncles and grandfathers if they do anything at all unusual, like wanting to marry somebody from a different clan, or fleeing to a women’s shelter to escape abuse.

OK Sottwell, thanks for that load of off-topic crud.

    a) Honor killing is not sanctioned or condoned by any Islamic sect. It is cultural.

    b) What’s your point? Are you saying that because some Muslims somewhere have sometimes done bad things, therefore the rising tide of anti-Muslim bigotry in the US is just perfectly fine and wonderful?

I was listening to NPR yesterday, and they were interviewing various American Muslims on the street, asking them how they felt about the Koran burning, the mosque burnings, and the political showboating surrounding the Ground Zero mosque. You know what they said? They said they’re more scared now than they were in the days immediately following 9/11.

Which of course, won’t matter one bit to you, Sottwell.

You know who else it won’t matter one bit to?

    The Jihadists.

They love to see America divided.

Why not burn copies of the Koran? It’s certainly much more civil than burning the owners of said tomes. If burning an American flag can be protected as free speech, why then should burning the Koran not be afforded the same protection? Seems some of our “enlightened progressive” friends see only one side of the coin.

There are some people who make it their mission to make every single comments section on this site into just another Pibgorn site or just another Big Top site. Unfortunately, they seem to have all the stroke on GoComics.

However, it’s just a political cartoon fan that got loose.

“Coming off the holiday weekend, Google’s homepage on Tuesday featured a doodle with a variety of fast-moving, colored balls. While some speculated the interactive logo was in honor of Google’s 12th birthday, the company was coy when asked about its homepage.

‘Today’s doodle is fast, fun, and interactive, just the way we think search should be,’ a Google spokesman said in a statement.”

Burke & Hare. Dylan Thomas wrote a screenplay entitled The Doctor and the Devils which was considered too gruesome by the British Film Censor to be made during his lifetime, owing to the graphic description of “burkeing”. The victim was smothered, in part, by having his or her face pressed into the belly fat of Mr. Burke, according to Thomas, not solely by having their chest compressed

It was finally filmed and released in 1985: http://www.amazon.com/Doctor-Devils-Timothy-Dalton/dp/B0009X75A6 and starred Timothy Dalton and Jonathan Pryce

This is a straw man argument that has no validity to it, because you are wrongly assuming that “enlightened progressives” are calling for the government to step in and prevent the Koran burning from taking place.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Nobody is disputing that group’s constitutionally guaranteed right to burn Korans. We merely assert that it is a hateful act of religious bigotry.

Flight Suit, the point is made that “enlightened progressives” have no issue with flag burning, yet think that burning the Koran will stir up hate. If you think burning an American flag doesn’t stir up hate, try burning one in front of your local VFW, American Legion, or other service related post. Why the difference? Defend both or defend none. You assert that burning a Koran is a “hateful act of religious bigotry” which I am in agreement with, but then ignore how much of a hateful act of whatever kind of bigotry burning an American flag is. Can you also tell me the last time you saw Americans dancing in the streets when a disaster of any kind hit a predominately Muslim nation? Is that not a hateful act of religious bigotry as performed by our Muslim “brethren”? Typically what happens in those cases is that the US Government sends massive aid, and US citizens donate to relief efforts. There’s real hatred for you, isn’t it? Bigotry is bigotry, and some folks will always be stirred up by symbolism. If the “enlightened progressives” (especially those who report the news of the day) in this nation would simply ignore things like Koran burning instead of making a major issue out of every perceived slight of some group or another, then the real issues of bigotry and racism might actually be dealt with. OMG, what a concept, dealing with issues instead of hype. Of course that doesn’t get morons from the Republican and Democrat parties re-elected.
