Only thing crueler than language is relationships.

What’s cruel is the thought of a pig in lingerie. It’s even uglier than putting lipstick on one.

The two words usually aren’t pronounced anything alike.

Pigita’s already not wearing anything but a necklace. How is lingerie going to make much difference?

Expectation of some tasty pork loin is cruel when it’s not on the menu for you, Pig.

Don’t take this in any sexist way, I’m merely a normal human male….Naked women can be beautiful and exciting.Women in lingerie are intriguing.Subtle, but important difference.I can only assume that the same is true among our porcine friends.

Don’t think I’d want to see Pigita in lingerie. Sexy or otherwise.

the key part to any relationship is listening (Pig interrupting) … to bomb-digity music!

And that’s why you should always wait for people to finish their words. Something like this happened to me once… and it wasn’t pretty.

Maybe they could just roll around in some mud together? Who needs lingerie?

This “pun” doesn’t work when spoken…

They’re cartoon characters…They read each other’s speech balloons. Pronunciation doesn’t enter the picture till the word is complete.

Meanwhile….

I have some lingering thoughts about Stephs ability to do a comic strip.

How does Mr. Pastis think ‘lingerie’ is pronounced?

Apparently Mr. Pastis severely over-estimated the intelligence level of his readers. Few of us understood the humor was not in the lack of similarity of how the words pronounced but in the ability of Pig to misunderstand even the written word. Perhaps these people, some of the very same who complain about the puns, should just leave their keyboards alone, or should leave Pearls and allow those of us who have humor and understanding to enjoy it without their negative comments..Relax people, find humor in it as you can. It is not the cartoonist’s job to spell everything out for you. To some it seems the cartoonist should even laugh for them, no effort involved on their part.

Wait…have I been mispronouncing “lingerie” all these years or is he literally reading her speech bubble instead of hearing it?

How many of you noticed that the word “language” uses the “g” in two different ways? First as a “guh” sound as in “lingering;” then as a “juh” sound as in “lingerie”? The true pun was in the word “language.”

{Steps down from soapbox, misses the step, and falls into mud. Now looks all “grungy.”}

Thankfully I have never bothered with relationships.

Best decision I ever made.
