LOL. Ah yes, those people who are experts in absolutely EVERYTHING and they sit at their computers and criticize everything that politicians do? They seem to know the right way to do everything but complain how they can’t afford anything because they are on a fixed budget and live month-to-month. Why don’t they put all that expertise into doing some good in the world or at least make some money?
We’d all like to vote for the best man, but he’s never a candidate.~Ken Hubbard
Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule — and both commonly succeed, and are right. ~H.L. Mencken
Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber. ~Plato
When I was a boy I was told that anybody could become President; I’m beginning to believe it. ~Clarence Darrow
We have, I fear, confused power with greatness. ~Stewart Udall
(I especially like this one and see it as part of the problem, that we assume they are more than they are and thus we should bow down to their greater wisdom, dhg)
Any American who is prepared to run for president should automatically, by definition, be disqualified from ever doing so. ~Gore Vidal
Politics is the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich, by promising to protect each from the other. ~Oscar Ameringer
(Which leads one to think they MUST be smarter than they seem — or we MUST be dumber than we think ourselves to be, dhg)
I have come to the conclusion that politics is too serious a matter to be left to the politicians. ~Charles de Gaulle
(The only problem with that is if you don’t leave it to politicians, you hand it to dictators, dhg)
The best thing about this group of candidates is that only one of them can win. ~Will Rogers
I notice we also tend to concentrate our thinking on presidents when senators, representatives, mayors and governors are also part of the motley mixture. dhg
