The air is really getting very, very thick. I think the biggest question is whether Pru will quickly tell Les the score about herself, or whether she’s just going to find another way to sweep the issue under the rug.
Anyone remember in the old comics, where the thought balloon would show money bags with wings flying away? That is what we may see with Leslie. When Pru reveals the facts of life to Mr. (smart aleck) Leslie and Mrs. Berger!! LOL :-)
So Ma Berger calls Pru a “doll”. This prompts me to acknowledge that, after careful consideration, I think Pru is the prettiest woman introduced to the strip. Toni, however, is a very close second.
I believe pru will just politely dismiss Mrs berger’s comment and speak to leslie later or ignore it entirely. Either way, leslie will be upset because pru dismissed the very idea by dismissing Mrs berger’s comment and wouldn’t bother coming to him to talk about it. He’ll get the message pru considers himy a friend or a co-worker, nothing more.
Now My before bed comment. I am such a night owl, and Luann has become part of my ritual. I am glad that the strip is not in Spanish tonight here in GoComics; I figured that was just a one-time faux pas anyway. It seems to me that Uncle Mr. Gray is meeting Ma Berger at the Cafe for lunch, or dinner, and while waiting for her, he had that angry conversation with Les. Given all the history, there is context for wondering where Les got the money to pursue his interest in Pru, but at the same time Pru, innocently, IMO has no idea that Les is anything but being helpful to her to push the children’s theater concept. She obviously has no idea that Les apparently is choosing to spend his money on her charitable goals—and where did/does he get it in the first place anyway—while he wants to woo her, not knowing she is gay, and not interested in him romantically. The other wrinkle is that Les is supposed to be sending money to the mother in the first place. Anyway, Ma Berger is going to bring all of this to a head by her compliment of Pru’s looks, and her assumption that she is Les’s girl. A bundle of coincidences about to collide into Luannverse reality. For those who might have their head spinning with my commentary, well sorry, but this is kind of a head spinning arc, among the other post-wedding arcs as well, but that just happens to be Luannverse. I say go with the flow, your own way. This is mine.
Yo, that’s RIGHT, Les! You Tell Your Uncle Al! You gonna be a "Sucess, just that guy, Tommy that Joe Pesci played in the movie Goodfellas! Yep, just before Old Tommy got Whacked….,
I love how all the characters look like Colorforms, those two-dimensional plastic cut-outs that adhere to the background. Except Colorforms have more depth and complexity.
I don’t want to see Les get away with being a jackass – but I note a lot of “Luann” fans have been supportive of Les. Fortunately for the world, I’m not the great Referee in the sky. In this arc, Pru might pretend to be a girlfriend in front of Ma Berger, just because Pru is a kind person. Then she would later tell him very sweetly how it is. We can see by his facial expressions, that Les has already been punished inside. Maybe he’ll wind up being friends with Pru, and Gunther, and even Ox. So maybe I’m the jackass for wanting to see total humiliation.
Mrs. Berger inadvertently revealed a big surprise to Prudence. Knox’s gifts were leading up to Pru officially becoming his girl, but Mrs. Berger went right to the point.
And if Hitch (Mr. Gray) keeps up the pressure, it may have a long lasting effect on Les. It will force change on Les. Either he goes straight, or he will go straight, to jail.
In my devious mind, I wonder if Leslie was intending to scam Pru and the children’s theater all along. ‘Heading for success’? How was he going to accomplish that without skimming money off the children’s theater money (again) and perhaps even from Pru herself? Pru has such a giving heart and is so nice to everyone, she wouldn’t see through someone being nice to her with ulterior motives to be after her money, even as little as she may have.
Hopefully Pru will catch on that Les has been representing her to be his girlfriend, and tell Les that he shouldn’t do that. This is one plot thread that would be better off resolved.
Les’ arrogance is about to get a big gut check … Mr. Gray, as a favor if I recall right, asked the DeGroots to give Les a job at the café, with the emphasis that it would help Les overcome his rough past.
I’m thinking Pru will reveal she lied about the entire lesbian thing, or at the very least, she’s bi. This will make Luann angry and start some new drama. Probably wrong, but would be a big twist.
@LOCAKE: I have a number of older aunts who have praised young women by calling them a ‘doll’, and have suggested that they were probably the apple of their boss’s eye. Why is that so socially inappropriate? Maybe embarrassing (especially if the boss was married), but not the stuff of horror films…
“uncle” is the one who gave Les a chance with a job – Les obviously owes Mom money and that’s why Uncle gave him the job, so he could pay back his Mom. Les has all this money because he steals it, has been shown doing that in the strip over time. Someone needs to knock the chip off his shoulder, he thinks he is Gods gift to the entire world and everyone should think he is Mr. Perfect. He is quite dense if he hasn’t figured out by now that Pru is not the least bit interested in him, heck she invited Luann and parents (investors in club) to their dinner, that alone should have shown him she is not interested in him. About time Les gets caught out at stealing money from various funds and is off to jail, his part in this strip is getting really old and boring. Bernice and Piro either need to get together or not – another long drug out ordeal, Not high school anymore and some of these characters are not pleasant as “adults”, Tiff needs to move across country and leave the strip, she does absolutely nothing for it and Bernice needs to get a grip on life, she’s acting more like a 7th grader than a freshman in college, need to see more of Brad and Toni and their roomie needs to move on to another place to live………….off my soapbox

Scary but inevitable. Les is the kind of guy who will punish Pru for not sharing his fantasy. This strip could take a really dark turn.

What could be worse for Leslie Knox than his own Mom?
Why, Ma Berger, of course! She carries swirling clouds of disaster around with her. Look at her own son, the shipwreck.
Now, Leslie is on the verge of enlightenment; or, of sampling the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Let him down easily, Pru—not that he deserves mercy….
