My cat likes to smell my sock-covered feet or my empty shoes, then makes The Smell Face. Maybe I need to start wearing Odor Eaters? :)

Ah, the smell of snerk!

I know that face! I’ve seen that face. I’ve just never seen it in triplicate before. That last panel would make a great “Not Welcome” mat!

Now, does the snerk mean it was a bad smell or a good smell? Or is the jury still out?

I have never been able to figure why they make that face. Is it a yuk or a yum?

This reminds me of Scandinavia and the World’s “special lion”.

While the Boys analyze carefully this olfactory phenomenon, a dog would have licked the spot clean in seconds. Nothing against dogs. I love ’em! But kitties are discretionary.

Flehmen ? Ha! This should forever more be known as the snerk phenomena. I also love how Puck brought in the elder statesman, Elvis, for the consult.

Yum Yum likes me to open my mouth to let her smell my breath after I’ve eaten and then she makes that face. I always thought it meant I have bad breath.

My husband left a pair of underwear on the floor yesterday. One of my cats started doing EXACTLY THAT! SOOO funny.

This has got to be the funniest strip out of the dailies for BCN, hands down!Had to tell my friend to put down any beverage she may have been drinking before reading today’s comic. I just love Breaking cat News. Makes me smile every day.

When my kitties do this I always think of it as the equivalent of wine-tasters making all those weird expressions to access all the “notes” in the wine.

Three weeks later, and this is still making me laugh no end.

Snerk?

We call that supersniff or flehmen face. It’s not limited to cats.

Opening their mouth allows the Jacobson’s (or vomeronasal) organ to receive the scent more readily, allowing them to get more scent information. You’ll see males do this to assess if a female is in estrus.
