This was an unexpected development. I have tended to like Tara from her first appearance. This seems to indicate she has a strong positive side. Hooray.
Why is it only some characters actually have eyes?
Others only have little black dots. I’ve always assumed that only the “real people” have actual eyeballs, and the others are aliens. Also Greg always mostly gives bedroom black swoosh eyes to people he is trying to draw as super attractive.
Party pooper department (and I fully expect to get called out for this): Skipping class is a greater negative than any supposed positive to be gained from this activity. As for Tara ‘s alleged “time management,” those of us who are adults, since when do any of us get to skip a function or scheduled meeting just because we think it’s a waste of time?
That off my chest, I would now like to take the time to repent! Yes, I know that I was one of those who whined the loudest about having Greg “solve” the stolen TV mystery. All I can say is, be careful what you wish for, you might get it! Oh, yes, and shame on Luann for giving way to the Tempter!
Story idea: Luann haphazardly pulls the bowstring incorrectly and rips her ear off. But all is not lost. At the hospital, she meets a young intern who becomes her new best friend. Alas Bernie.
um…I’m no expert, but, doesn’t the quiver of arrows go over the shoulder, with the arrows on your back, near your neck? or have I been watching too many Robin Hood movies?
Here is where her being an ancestor to Captain Jonathan Archer could really be manifest. The minute she says: “Arm the photon arrow, Miss DeGroot.”….then instructs: "On my mark……. Fire! ". Yep! That would just about seal it, for me!
@Ringo: Tara and Toni should switch hairstyles. Tara would look so much better with long scarlet locks. And short hair on Toni is sensible for her job.
Maybe you’d like Tara to look more feminine, so she’d be even more attractive to you.
On one hand, despite her rugged profession – unusual for most women – Toni is a very feminine woman. And especially while she’s young, she probably likes to keep her long hair so she can be a gorgeous Barbie doll. She’d never want to be perceived as a tomboy.
On the other hand, Tara is very tomboyish. In her haircut, personality, and general ways. It’s the way she wants to be and look, or she wouldn’t do it.
It’s also noteworthy that we’ve never, so far, seen her show any romantic interest in guys, which has already stirred up numerous comments. If she has those interests, it’s yet to surface in the strip. But we already have one female character who’s not into guys, so it’s not too far-fetched for another to show up.
I think Tara may be one of these people who has no patience at all for anything she isn’t interested in, but is incredibly good at anything she IS interested in.
I’ll be curious to see how similar archery safety rules are to four basic firearm safety rules. Two of them should translate across directly. “Don’t point it at anything you aren’t willing to destroy”, and “Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it.” I guess “Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are aligned and you’re ready to fire” would change to “Don’t draw the bow until you’re ready to release.” “Always treat it as if it’s loaded” doesn’t really translate.
Did anyone get a cookies warning before they commented today? I also had to sign-in even though Luann is bookmarked on my tablet. Internal error issue. Anyway I am not any kind of expert on archery either, and find all the comments by those who know a lot more about it interesting. I already said I think cutting class is harmless. as long as it is not a constant things, and Luann and Tara contact the teacher, or at least keep up with the work in the class, and as I have said, I teach community college. The most interesting thing to me is the developing relationship between the “pals” here, and the fact that Tara is shown to have a full life where she becomes so good at something, as someone commented earlier, that she can be certified to teach it School is important to her, but she focuses on other things as well. I think this is healthy, but how it fits with Luann, and reverberates in Luannverse will be fun to see. Hiho everyone!
This was me in high school. I have fond memories of being out on the range and hiking the hills on Camp Pendleton. The non-fond memory is the day I fell forward onto some cactus. Ouch! Luckily, my shooting partners’ dad was a Navy corpsman and he picked all of the pins out of my palm.
Isn’t this something they could have done on their off time without skipping classes? I can see Luann’s grades suffering because of her new friendship.
OK. So Tara is an archery instructor and we get to see her responsible side. She considers Luann to be her friend; she wants her friends to know about her and what she does. Hey, it beats bowling!
I remember a British comedian on the Ed Sullivan Show tlking about heroes: “We have Robin Hood: a guy who wore green tights, pointy shoes and a hat with a feather in it. And he hid in the forest; if I dressed like that, I’d hide in the forest, too!”
Not liking this thread so far, hope it gets interesting soon. Is it OK to skip class to do something on a whim? Is it OK to skip my job to go do something? Hope there are some consequences at the end of this. Some kids do read this strip.

Tara is teaching Luann to be responsible, and have fun too!
Luann has needed to loosen up. Tara is a much more positive influence than Bernice, for the current phase in Luann’s life.
