Oh, for Pete’s sake. Is she going to freak when she discovers that generations ago the slaves’ own people sold them to the European slave traders? It is frigging history. In the past. Get a life. It was the cultural more of the time. It is history. You cannot change it. It happened generations ago. It does not happen today. Jeez.

Slavery doesn’t happen today? You’re mistaken. Perhaps not in the form it did in the American South before the Civil War, but slavery does exist in the world today.

Leftist are such simpletons, even something pretty clearly written has to be twisted and distorted and turned init a “living document” to push their proven crummy (many times) agenda.

This is easy. Up to that point in history, kings and queens told people that their rights came from them. The documents founding the USA established people have rights because they exist, given to them by their creator, and which cannot be taken away by other people. Hope this helps.

Someone should teach Danae about history and how our nation as changed since 1776. Obviously rights have been expanded considerably since that time. Unfortunately, the young people these days think you have to delete history in order not to be offended by it because, after all, being offended is the absolute worst thing that can happen to them. I truly hope they grow up some day.

Washington was a slave owner and a traitor to the crown. Lee was a slave owner and a traitor to the Union. The main difference is one won and the other lost and that makes all the difference.

Seems to me that these ideas have been beat to death for far too long. If we were living in an Asian society, the “founding fathers” of that society would all be Asian. Or, if we lived in Africa, most likely the founding fathers of a particular state would all be African. The point is, let’s all just get along. OK?

The constitution is out of date. It accepts slavery, it allows for gerrymandering, it set up the electoral college, it allows no restrictions on guns because Jefferson never met an AK-47. My fondest wish is that I could go back in history and sit down with Madison and Jefferson and tell them the results of some of the mistakes in the constitution. Of course, I would either be ignored because I’m a woman or burned as a witch, which is another example of just how far we’ve come since the time the constitution was written, and why it either needs fixing or needs to be acknowledged as out of date. And, if I have you with me so far, I’m going to go even further out on a limb and mention that there is another document that people are trying to make relevant to modern times that was written a couple thousand years ago.

Our constitution can be amended.

What does “gay” mean? In the Gay ’90s of the 19th Century, it meant frivolous and light-hearted. In the Gay ’90s of the 20th Century, it referred to human rights for people whose sexual preference differed from the majority.

What does “virgin” mean? In some ancient dialects, simply “girl”; in others, “woman (of any age) who has never had sex”.

What does “light” mean? In the dictionary it has over a hundred definitions, under 5 different parts of speech (noun, transitive verb, intransitive verb, adjective, and adverb).

What does “man” mean? Different things to different people at different times under different circumstances.

The idea that a word can ever and always have only one true meaning may make for an interesting comic strip, but it’s terrible linguistics and worse history.

It was ILLEGAL in Virginia for slaveowners to free their slaves, except in their wills. Washington freed his slaves upon his death, the soonest he was able to. Jefferson originally planned to do the same, but then decided to change the law. He succeeded, but at the cost of mortgaging everything. By the time he could legally free his slaves, technically he wasn’t their actual owner anymore.

“Half” is being extremely generous. To say “Most” of the Founding Fathers were slave-owners would probably be more accurate. I’d have to double-check, but off the top of my head, there’s only ONE in the whole bunch that I know for a fact never used slave labour during his lifetime.

The FIRST slaveholder in America was BLACK. Moreover, there was a highwr percentage of blacks held by black slaveholders, than white slaveholders. WHO ended slavery? WHITE PEOPLE.

When you use “Gay” capitalized it means men who like to be around men over women. And there is its same meaning used “gay” that way. For joyous happiness. But one doesn’t have to supplant the other does it?
