…and so we continue to Pray for Peace but prepare for war? Will we even mature enough to know that Peace should be,and war should Not? Will we live long enough to reach that level of maturity? I pray for that Too.
One Christmas eve during the first World War. British troops in their trenches could hear singing coming from the German trenches. They braved no mans land and crossed over to join them in singing Christmas songs and shared their rations and pictures of their loved ones back home. For one short evening there was Peace on Earth and good will towards all.
Wonder if it would be possible to have that meeting BEFORE war begins instead of during?
To everyone who reads this, and no matter where you live, we hope your new year is all that you wish it to be. We wish you happiness and fulfillment. I have enjoyed your company along the way.
Problem is, psychopathic rulers who threaten all around them do exist. Neville Chamberlain gave peace a chance, and look where that got us. More recently, however, some of our leaders did not give peace a chance when they might or should have done so.
Up to wars in the Americas Europeans would pause wars for Xmas. This had 2 reasons. 1 was religious the other was winter. Snow, mud flooding streams made movement of military impossible. They would wait until spring made the areas dry again. 1870 Christmas was made a national holiday in the US. Licoln held a Christmas party at the White House trying to get the confederates to come. 1970’s we bombed the hell out of North Vietnam in what is know as Xmas bombings dec 19th through the 29th.

Must we always come up with controversy this at this time of the year when one mentions “Peace on Earth”? There will be peace on God’s green Earth.

I don’t think the armies have had a Christmas truce since WW1.
