When white men commit such tragedies, they’re allowed to have “mental illness” as their defense while enablers insist on “freedom against tyranny.” Those of darker complexions who commit similar tragedies are labeled as “thugs” and “terrorists” who are trying to destroy America.

This is misleading, practically a lie. The statistics for mass shootings show nearly all (98%) are by males, true – and it’s shocking since males and females have equal access to guns, and many females also play violent video games. However, the data shows that only a small majority of mass shootings in the US were by white men – only 54%. Now consider the fact that 74.8% of the US population is white, and that the male/female ratio is nearly equal, so 54% of 75% is only 40%. The math doesn’t lie – the vast majority of mass shootings in the US is indeed by males, but, compared to the general population, these males are actually more likely to be not white! I hope the data has revealed Wiley’s fallacy in bringing race into it. Gender, sadly yes that’s a huge difference – but race, not so much, and actually it’s in the opposite direction.

There is plenty of blame to go around. What there isn’t is a coherent long term plan to correct the perception that a gun or any other form of violence can resolve whatever problems the attacker has with his/her social and/or political life. And, sadly, there is never likely to be one, sensible discourse being absent from the discussions.

After all, once you’ve thrown down the race card as cover for your crimes, you can’t pick it up and repeat the play. Best lay low and keep quiet on the bench.

I don’t disagree with the info stated in the last panel. But I’m confused about the douuble standarad of reporting facts: So if someone said that the majority of car jackings or murders of young men are commitd by blacks, that would be racist? (I don’t condone any type of crime, no matter who is at fault!)

Obviously Wiley Miller is trying to develop a program of putting all white males in concentration camps because “they” are so dangerous. Forget about the run if the mill drive by shootings that kill innocent babies, those killings don’t matter. Perhaps Wiley considers those killings just a “self-cleaning oven”, not to be concerned with for that reason. [I don’t, by the way. I think those need at least as much attention as the mass shootings.] Wiley, you have no future as a politician, at least that’s my hope.

Let me offer to everyone who celebrates Passover, or Easter, my best wishes to you. For those who are non-religious or whose religious faith isn’t tied to these holy days, I wish you all well, also.

Just an observation… To those who do celebrate the religious aspect of this holidays,…both traditions were born out of cultural remembrances of acts of violence.

Remember years ago when that whacko far-left organization, the NRA, endorsed a temporary ban on assault weapons? (Probably grudgingly, but it did endorse the ban.) The entire time it was in effect, zero people had their second amendment rights violated. based on that ban. If the ban had not been repealed, the number today, BASED SOLELY ON THAT BAN, who had their second amendment rights violated in all these years, would also be zero.

Oh, good, so gender profiling isn’t sufficient, we have to combine it with racial profiling. Got it. Wanna throw in age and religion components as well? Maybe socio-economic status? Let’s really tee off on the mentally ill, while we’re at it. And when we’re done, we’ll have whittled the ranks of potential mass murderers down to, oh, about 8-10% of the population, which we should then all round up and ship off to concentration camps to keep everybody else safe. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

I’m really looking forward to seeing where Wiley takes this next week (in other words, really hoping he doesn’t just drop it here and start a new story).

We are encountering the fundamental problem of stereotyping any racial, ethnic, religious, gender, immigrant, etc., group as the “source of criminals”: while it may be true that 99% or more of mass shooters are white males, it’s also true that at least 99.995% of white males are NOT mass shooters. So while being a mass shooter is a good predictor of race and gender, race and gender at a worthless predictor of mass shooter behavior. Same goes for ethnicity, religion, status as immigrant vs citizen, etc. Attempting to say that any of these things identifies a particular person as the “criminal type” makes as much sense as basing a similar identification upon length of noses and fingers, or the pattern of bumps upon the head (both of which have been given credence at various times).

It’ll be interesting to see how this story line plays out…

Perhaps Wylie would like to develop this theme by suggesting the feminisation of firearm ownership. We could address the oversupply of guns in the civilian community simply by requiring all gun owners or users to wear a dress.

There is a repetitive theme in these comments that if a woman does something men do, it’s OK for thousands of men to do it. How about making it wrong for everyone equally. Oh, wait it is, but for some reason white males get off far easier for the same crime as everyone else, including white women, but not exclusively.

There was a woman, Marrissa Alexander, in prison in Florida because she only fired a warning shot at her husband. Her original sentence was 20. Apparently, it would have been better for her legally if she had killed him. It likely didn’t help her being black. The other thing going against her, was the courts decided her wounds and proof of abuse from her husband weren’t bad enough for her to fire a weapon at him. There has been a very big difference in how Florida’s ill thought Stand Your Ground law is applied.

Enough. It’s time that money, gender, and race don’t factor in sentencing for the same crime. Circumstances and background of the individual that shows the persons general character should always be considered, but nothing else. Someone who gets caught in the moment and punches someone in the face, should not be sentenced the same as someone who does it repeatedly. However, that should be the only factor, not wealth, skin tone, and/or gender.

What’s really sad, is it is very possible for everyone in the world to choose to be nice. It is a choice, but there are so many not willing to make that choice, because they can’t figure out what they get out of it. Apparently, a happy world where no one lives in fear isn’t enough. Just think of the money we would have for education, health, and science if we could stop spending so much trying to kill one another.

White men, the group of people not allowed to have an identity. Not allowed to celebrate achievements. Not allowed to complain about the problems they face as white men. All this is allowed to fester. Most male shooters have a history of being bullied. Did any students or faculty come to there aid? What’s left. Suicide or revenge.

Wow! I was not aware that dead people cared how they died – in a shooting or a mass shooting. Seems to me if I were dead, I’d be pretty pissed about the dead part, and not so much about how many came along with me. And if you look at homicides in inner cities like Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis, Chicago, and on and on, you will note that – unfortunately for the undertone of the cartoon above – vastly more people are murdered in a typical day than are murdered in the typical “mass murder” (over 3 people), which only happens every few months. Of course, it’s mostly black people killed by other blacks, so that’s the 3rd rail of political correctness, and it seems that no one really cares about the assembly-line daily mayhem of the black community; only about white. male. AR-15. shooting. Do I have it right there? So why do dead people care so much about the latter, and not so much about the former? Anyone want to mansplain that to me?
