Man: I regard the holiday season as a triumph of humanity over technology. Woman: How's that, dear? Man: The quaint traditions, like people going out caroling, is the last vestige of a slower pace of life that the internet hasn't ruined. Woman: Ah...yes. Man: I stand corrected. "We tweet you a merry Christmas...We tweet you a merry Christmas...We tweet you a merry Christmaaaasss...and a haaaaapppy...new yeeeaaarrr.

I still believe that grizzly bears have the right idea: Just sleep this entire time of year off like a bad drunk.

Xmas caroling is a treat……if you’ve ever had youngsters caroling at your front door you’ll have a good memory of it.

Some of my fondest memories, were being part of a group that sang exceptionally well, and caroling with that group to friends and relatives. Many of those relatives are gone now, but they had told me, that they cherished the evening, that we sang to them.

CharlieTuba, you rock! As an active Tuba player myself (even used to belong to the T.U.B.A.), I love Tuba Christmas!
I’m not doing it this year but am playing in church on Christmas Eve.

Didn’t it use to be ‘Ding, Dong’ before microsquish launched it’s new search engine, or is it just me?

Actually several years ago I think that I saw a TV piece about a (?)Japanese group that used cellphone key tones to synchronized the tune for “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”. Was actually amazed at their skill and coordination.
As for ‘texting’, bleah and bah humbug. You will get no hot apple cider from me for that!

Perfect! They all have their backs to each other. Now THAT’S communication. Another good one, Wiley.

Tuba Christmas sounds wonderful!
I do remember going out and caroling in college. It was in Minnesota and always cold, but being out with friends, making music, and the appreciation we got kept us all nice and warm.

I used to love caroling. Too bad that modern times are such that we would be un-PC nowadays. God bless you all and a Merry Christmas to all.

A sleeping drunk is a good drunk, its the awake drunks that are trouble

My friends and I used to Christmas carol when I was younger. One friend was the musician, he played the trumpet. We were real popular in the neighborhood

Probably the best caroling I ever participated in was in Korea when my squadmates and I caroled the whole camp including the Korean workers. It was enjoyed by all even my squad mate, Jim, who suddenly said, “Here I am, a good Jewish boy singing Christmas Carols in a heathen country.”
Ahh, those were the days.

I think caroling is like fruitcake in that people either love it or hate it.

Tubas and ringtones, how about the ones with barking dogs, or meowing cats; or the “Song” Carol of the Fryers done with barnyard animal sounds? Strange. However, I liked the recent video of a “Blow on a Bottle” carol. (Check: maniacworld.com ) But then I’m weird that way.

Tubas and ringtones… then there’s Christmas carols on bagpipes:

(starts around 45 seconds in, runs to about 1:30; and yes, I’m somewhere in that band…)
And a Merry Digital Christmas:

I can’t watch youtube with this computer anymore. I was looking for a jazz-fusion group called Sky that had a tuba solo called “Tuba Smarties.” I have it on reel-to-reel tape.

‘Twas the night b’fore X-Mas and all thru the hiz-ouse Not a creature wuz stirring Not even a mouse… The stockings were hung by the chimney with care In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there… Unfortunately the enemy combatant known as a St. Nicholas AKA St. Nick AKA Santa Claus AKA Father Christmas has been apprehended. He is being held without bail pending extradition to the Hague where he will go on trial for crimes against crimes against humanity. Known accomplices are as follows: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. Also be on the look-out for a shady Mid-East contact known only as “Rudolph”. Outstanding physical characteristics are as follows: Glowing red nose. No, really…

Outdoor caroling in cold climates- not all that! People don’t even want their doors open. My grandparents had us gather around the piano and sing carols while grandma played. That WAS a Dickens kind of moment- very warm;-)

A single electric guitar picking Christmas carols is very, very sublime….
