My two boys routinely have whiskers over 6 inches long. Yes, I’ve saved some. Yes, they look at me as if I’m nuts but they’ve never shaken a clenched paw at me … that I’ve seen.

Does Puck have angry eyebrows in that picture the Woman included in her Georgia Dunn signature scrapbook? Are his paws fisted on his hips? Puck is really angry about this loss of a whisker.

Oh, the felinity! The humiliation! However will Puck live this down?

Also, the Toddler’s subtitles sound so deadpan, LOL.

Elvis’s chart makes me want whiskers! For that touch of elegance and glamour. Whiskers make anyone look just a little bit better.

Pucky has one paw over his cheek and is whispers a horrified “….no…” like he knows what’s coming. And Elvis, unless I’m mistaken (always a possibility) you should have included in your chart the fact that a cat’s whiskers are like human adult teeth- you only get one set..

Elvis is reminding me of Dick Dastardly and Snidely Whiplash with the way he’s curling those whiskers.

I used to have a big stuffed Tigger and whenever I found one of my cats whiskers, I would stick in in Tigger so he could have whiskers.

I have to admit, I saved a whole bunch of whiskers from my sweet boy Whiskers! I still have them even though he passed away 2 years ago. I can’t bring myself to throw them out.

I had a fondness for perfectly formed shed claws. And my vet gave me one of my cat’s teeth in a test tube that I kept for a couple of years. Probably only a cat owner would understand this. (You do understand this, right? Right?? :-) )

When my 4 were little, I noticed one time when I was taking them in for vaccines and check ups, that one of my girls had had her whiskers gnawed off to about 1 inch in length. I was freaking out about it but the vet just chuckled and said she’d be okay. None of the others fessed up to it. She looked a little odd for a while.

Now, it should be noted that it was not beyond Kip to strike a female. As a last resort, of course, and only if there were no other options. From time to time he had heard the humans talk of “equalty” of the sexes. Well, he simply felt that if women really wanted equality, they should be treated equally in a fight. After all, he had been with a few ladies he felt could hold their own with any male. He had no idea. Megan opened her eyes to see Tre-C standing on her back feet, raining lefts and rights on Kip almost faster than the eye could see. Kip had retreated about ten feet and all eyes were on him. Then Tre-C picked up the serving tray. ”Tre-CEE!” Megan shouted; “Calm down, kitten… go to your happy place.” Tre-C stood there, tray over her head and eyes locked on target. Kip was licking his wounds and trying to catch his breath; “That’s some temper your kid’s got. Megan quickly turned to Kip, ”MY kid?” And somewhere in the dark recesses of Kip’s brain, someone threw the light switch…

I’m not sure about the judging gaps idea, but whiskers certainly do a lot for cats. Cats can detect changes in air pressure and tiny movements of air through their whiskers. They use ears, nose, and whiskers to hunt in total darkness.

And today we bought some transparent vinyl sheeting. Ten paces out of the hardware shop we saw a hair on it.

    A cat hair.

I used to raise Maine coons. Frequently kittens’ whiskers were routinely short. The mothers bit t hem off because they tic k led the moms when the babies nursed. They always grew back after weaning and before the kittens went to their new homes.

Mine go on my Wiccan altar, then later (hopefully many years later) when their ashes are there in their boxes (waiting to be buried with mine) I tape what whiskers I get to the top of them.

Was given a stuffed chocolate Siamese toy that had no whiskers. It does now. When I find a whiner, it is inserted on either side of the toy’s nose. It is beginning to look like a proper Siamese.PS Is it true that cats only have 12 whiskers on either side?

To Georgia Dunn: I want to thank you for your wonderful strip. I lost 2 of my life mentors this week and have been very depressed. This morning, with my faithful Alice in my lap,I decided enough sadness and read your strip from the beginning. By the time I was halfway though, Alice had jumped down because I was laughing so hard. By the time Iwas caught up I was feeling good about life, again. I can only hope that Bob and Dan have plenty of kitty angels to play with now.

I used to curl Yang’s whiskers like Elvis’s in panel four. He’d walk around the house for a couple of hours looking thoroughly foppish, and then he’d come back to me to get them re-straightened.

I have a small bowl that I made in pottery class that hold both Sebastian’s (black whiskers) and Vlad’s (white whiskers). I have more black than white because the white really blends in with the beige carpet.

A word of warning to anyone who has a Buzzy Mouse style toy – today I pulled the string a little too hard and the ring came off and the string snapped right up into Buzzy and now he just sits there. Oh, well – I liked him better than the cats did.

My mom saved all our cats’ whiskers from over the years. When she died I put them in an envelope and they went with her to be cremated. I have a whole box of my cat’s whiskers. Hopefully someone sends them on with me! As a side note, an artist friend painted a portrait of my cat and used some of his cast-off whiskers in the painting. :)

Long ago we had a black shorthair named Hans. All his whiskers were black, all year round.

Except for December. Every year he would sprout a large single white whisker. My ex called it the Christmas whisker. it was collected each year (when we could find it) and cherished.

I’ve collected whiskers for years. Strange people ask if I pluck them (No, I pick them up when the cat is done with them). It came in handy for a stage play I directed. “Katy Kat” wore real whiskers. It was adorable.
