Could you please help me with something? I enjoy your comic, and even go to BarkBase dot de to read it in German. But sometimes (like usually) the translation eludes me. Could you provide a translation somewhere? It’s an outstanding language teaching tool.

If you want a cheat, sometimes at the bottom of the cartoon you’ll see “Originalfassung.” That’s the original English version. Just click on that, and you’ll have it. Of course, sometimes it’s not there, but usually it allows you to check your Deutschkenntnisse

That said, it’s always good to keep in mind that I’ve given the translators a very free hand in the German version. Some jokes don’t work in another language or need to be tweaked.
Sometimes, I’m sure, the translators come up with better jokes that my gags!
John and CD - Thank you. That helps a lot. And John, I know what you mean about the translation. Humor doesn’t usually work well if translated too literally. In my language studies, I’ve learned that humor is the second hardest thing to translate. The most difficult is cussing. Learning the words is one thing, but knowing exactly when and how to say it can lead to some very awkward moments.
Regarding your suggestion, I suppose it would be a bit of overkill to translate the translations back into English. As cdward pointed out, there’s usually a link to the “Originalfassung” included.
And if you have a specific question about the German text, feel free to post it using the “Kommentar schreiben” button. One of us (or one of our German readers) will surely get back to you.

I always take directions. I’m just not good at following them. I once ended up in Scotland…by accident.
