Jack didn’t waste any time mentioning that it was fun seeing Tiffany as well. In the last panel, it didn’t look like Jack appreciated Luann’s deprecating remark about Tiffany.
In a different comic strip, Luann would be taking note that Jack likes kids. In this comic strip, everything she hears is an opportunity for Luann to smack down her archenemy.
@capricorn9th: You know for sure what one of the characters in this ’toon is thinking? Wow, so you must be Karen posting under a different screen name…
With all the so-called improvements that GoComics has added (including the one that still makes it impossible for me to see anything but their ‘featured comment’ during the day, because I have no authority to download an update to the version of Outlook our network uses), you’d think they would have added the option of voting down a posted comment…
When in doubt, insult Tiffany behind her back, eh Luann? Maybe one day she’ll realize that putting others down doesn’t make her look any better (and we can see here that Jack didn’t find her attempt at being clever all that amusing either.) This reminds me of a Hemingway quote cited in the first Kingsman movie: “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man. True nobility is being superior to your former self.”
Jack is kinda reverting back to the dim bulb persona – the way he originally came off. He has missed a lot of signals between Luann & Tiff. Jack should have had some awareness that Tiff was trying to preempt Luann’s show that Luann had planned for the kids – and that it wasn’t cool. Saying “It was fun seeing you and Tiffany at Kids 1st” says it all. Jack doesn’t have a clue.
Jack exhibits many of the characteristics of a natural and unaffected child. Which is good in so many ways. He is guileless; some would say naïve. He seems friendly with all. You couldn’t call him a “skirt chaser” by any means. He loves to have fun but is sometimes unaware of the effect of his size and strength. It’s all there in Panel 2. I hope he never gets “clued in.”
Risking the displeasure of Argythree I think it is fun to delve into the psychology of the characters in cartoon strips. Which is in actuality delving into the how Greg sees his characters. Like any good cartoonist he has a “book” devoted to how the character is to look; facial expressions, gestures, adornment, etc. In his mind, he knows how they feel and how they’d react in certain situations; what they’d say and how they’d say them.
In the last few days, Luann seems to be pushing Jack into seeing Tiffany as more than an acquaintance. Alternately she seems to be trying to sort out her own feelings toward him. I wonder if Greg has made up his mind yet.
Jack clearly does not know about the history of the frenemy relationship between Tiffany and Luann, and on his part he is more and more being drawn as a caring guy, particularly around kids. Anyone notice a parallel with a certain Luann DeGroot? The Tiffany angle will be there, but that is not what is where this relationship is leading. Luann wake up!! This might be someone you need to take more seriously. He likes you, but is not going to impose himself, at least not yet. Will she have to take the first step? What if he has a girlfriend already? All kinds of possibilities.
Luann did not insult Tiffany today. Saying what someone actually did is not an insult. An insult would be saying Tiff is immature or egotistical for the way she acted.
Sadly, that is exactly how Tiffany behaves. She needs to be the center of attention, and any opportunity to put herself above Luann is welcomed with open arms. When Jack arrived at the class, Tiffany practically threw herself in front of him. Then she wants to criticize Luann for taking his attention away from her.
At least Luann is more mature. She knows she’s liking Jack, but she’s smart enough to not rush into anything. Luann never once tried to throw herself in front of him; she doesn’t need to. Jack enjoys Luann’s company and they get along great.
My Chem Lab partner once spilled out all my chemicals thinking she was helping me by cleaning up while I weighed some samples. At least the teacher was understanding LOL.

Jack’s interpretation of the kids’ eagerness and Luann’s interpretation thereof sure are two different things.

Wow. Jack getting “Nicer” by the minute! He’s getting to be darn near impossible NOT to like.
But Jack should be Careful. “Nice Guys” usually finish LAST in the “Romance Department.” Especially in THIS Strip.
Unfortunately, Tiffany seems to be on an equal footing with Jack in panel one and he hasn’t seen thru her obvious flirting.
I wonder if Luann is going to “Clue Jack IN” to the REAL Tiffany?

Ha! Luann still has Tiffany on the brain. I know for sure Tiffany doesn’t have Luann on hers. Luann went spoof the minute Jack left the building.

Luann is picking Jack’s mind. She wants to know if he was interested in Paris(Tiff) she may be surprised with the answer. And we may too.
31768 about 6 years ago
I don’t think he’s dimwitted. I think he paid Paris(Tiff) no mind. And he may think of Luann the same way. To him they’re all just friends.
