In 8th grade I was taught that a theorem was a mathematical conjecture that could be proved. Then I was taught that the “four color map” theorem (that all maps can be made with no more than four colors) was yet to be proved. Hmm….
If you evenly space out the letters across the 48 contiguous states (California to Virginia), the ‘E’ in ‘STATES’ appears just south of where I live in Ohio. It should be noted that Watterson’s hometown is Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and that on the back of one of the C&H books, Calvin the Giant is destroying what is a representation of the Chagrin Falls town triangle, holding it’s easily identifiable popcorn shop in his hands.
I’d sarcastically say this would be the typical level of geographic knowledge for a kid in the U.S. but Calvin is only 6 years old so he gets a pass on this one.
Where’s Spaceman Spiff when you need him! And Spiff’s ride is a lot more aerodynamic and considerably more likely to survive reentry than that tub you’re in. You should thumb a ride!
Oh man, this one reminds me of LeadingEdge a lot. I remember that he invited me and a few other commenters over to his place when this strip came up in conversation.

Just keep circling the E until you spot your house.

I’ll look, where it is!!

The letter “E” usually covers 700 miles, north to south, so a bit more precision would be desired (unless they have bus fare).

My state appears to be beige on one map and green on another. Now I’m all confused.
