“But I’m the prince of darkness!” is going to be my catchphrase for the next week. I think Smudge has been using it for a while now . . . And so the campout comes to a delightful conclusion.
And this reminds me. I snagged a copy of Bunnicula from the library and I need to get started on it. It’s the perfect time of year for stories about fuzzy vampires!
Nice cape you’ve got there, Puck. However, you need to make up your mind whether you are a count or a prince. I’m not sure you can be both at the same time.
A good reason I prefer cans to pouches. If Smokey, Bandit, or DC knew tuna juice came from pouches and they could get a hold of the pouches, this would be a LIGHT outcome. Far more likely they’d rip the pouch apart. Tuna would be everywhere, but they’d satisfy their thirst for the water within.
I love Pucky’s use of the word “save” instead of except in panel 3. Methinks Georgia has read a good deal of British literature and J.R.R. Tolkien among her repertoire. ;-)
I love Pucky’s entirely serious face as he informs the Woman of his identity. Princes of Darkness must have a regular supply of tuna juice. Along with 16 hours of sleep a day or they’re just not themselves.
Good morning and happy Bunday, orbsters and orbabies! Count Puckula indeed!! Dead tuna pouches abound! On another note, my laptop has decided that it doesn’t like the internet anymore, so I have to take it into the repair shop this week. In the meantime, I am typing with one finger on my cell. Sigh…..
Morning orbsters! Yeah, we have to pick up the closed food bags. Ember in particular will bite through them given enough time and opportunity.
It’s that time again, the day I’m allowed – nay, ordered! – to cheat on my normal food plan with snack cakes. That’s what they feed you after you donate blood. Added bonus, I’m donating at a drive sponsored by a church in nearby Garner. The Woman and I haven’t really found a church home since our arrival in NC so we will be attending services there this morning as well.
I have a closed-cell foam pad that I bought for exercise which has a decorative border of tiny holes running all along the edges. Our big male Siamese can’t resist trying out his big white fangs on it.
Count Puckula, I thought he couldn’t be more adorable and here he is, raising the bar. The line, Children of the Pantry has absolutely totaled me for today.
Ah, the rains return! Thankfully, Hubby mowed & mulched last night. Rains like this drive the leaves from trees. Thus far, for this time of year, few have fallen.
Sadly, the colors are washed off as well. We were hoping for another “color ride”, but it’s a no-go.
Well, get it out of the way so’s the kids can do their T&T-ing Wednesday!
May this be a peaceful & delightful week, beloved orbsters!!! I love you all!!!! ♥♥♥
We used to have a beautiful little kitty that we named Buffy the Vermin Slayer. She ran away one day and never came back. We finally decided she left to go in search of more things to kill. I think Puckula is safe from her though.
The problem with today’s strip is that is it so well written and constructed I am inclined to crawl back into bed with all the fuzzy butts. I see no need to face this cold day after seeing this strip.
OMC- BCN broke the 10000 mark! 10021 when I looked just now ! Yayyyyyyyy, thanks, Georgia, for a gentle nudge we needed, and thanks everyone who signed up to follow. I suspect this is a joy to our beloved Georgia, one she richly deserves and we sort of owe her.
I can’t imagine the boys (or Buzzy Mouse or the Heater) will sleep well after all the stories of horror. I’m still recovering from the Were-Floof story.
Indoor Update: All is well. Lupin and Elvis are growing, growing bolder, growing contentness (is that a word) and growing more maniacal as each day passes. The stampeding continues and increases. And, Clark is becoming more and more social. He had been a little standoffish as a kitten and grew more detached as he grew.
As an adult he has been the stereotypical aloof meister, allowing contact in small doses, when and where he chose, skittering off on his timetable. With Elvis and Lupin drawing him into kitten games, he is also rediscovering his need for contact with the giant humans. It is truly a joy to have him pop in to the bedroom as I am putting on my jammies, jump up on the bed and insist on rubbies. Just like the kitten days.
Outdoor update: The goal was to have Trixie and the kittens all using the condo before we act. Last week that finally happened. Well, Mom and 3. The 4th we named Puck persisted in snoozing on the chair, seemingly oblivious to the condo. So, I placed the order for a 36×36 drop trap. The standard critter flap trap isn’t going to work in this situation.
And they all promptly disappeared. For 4 days. They have done this in the past, but that was before discovering the heated condo. Lisa was upset and getting more stressed as the days went by. Put food out each day, no cats. Not a hint of them. I will admit to a slight bit of anxiety myself. A hundred things run through your mind, pretty much all bad. Self doubt, kicking myself for not acting sooner, etc.
Thursday morning she put out the food and called out as usual. Made all the breakfast noises. Almost before the sliding door was closed, poof. Cats. As if they hadn’t left. And now spending most of the days and nights on the deck, in the condo.
But…missing Puck. 4 days now and he hasn’t shown up. Deep sigh. They are still not much bigger than your hand. I prefer to hope and not think too hard about it. Deep sigh.
We are now feeding canned food on a plate spotted where the drop trap will be set. There is always at least one point in the day when they all hit the the food plate together. We want to take them all at the same time to eliminate the stress of an uncaptured kitten suddenly alone and scared and running.
And now I am getting more and more stressed because its been a week and the trap has not arrived. The vendor hasn’t responded and I am getting upset. On one hand I am hoping the delay will result in the return of Puck. On the other, if another kitten disappears…I will be a very unhappy camper.
Such an adorably real-live-catlike =STRE-E-E-E-E-E-E-ETCH= for Puck in the next to last panel. & I’m sure part of the reason Elvis has his feet sticking out is so we can all see his TOEBEANS!!! Nighty night, kitties!
But I’m the Prince of Darkness, so cute! But as the Prince of Darkness Puck cannot understand why the woman is raining (reining or reigning) on his parade.
Well, here is my cat ghost story. My first two cats, Katie and Tuffy, barely tolerated each other most of the time and occasionally got into fights, but mellowed as they got older and would actually get on my lap at the same time or even sleep near each other when I was not around. At night, Katie always slept on top of the bed covers between my feet, and Tuffy slept under the covers on my left shoulder, purring into my ear and insisting that I hold his paw until we both fell asleep. He was my protector, taking every step I took even to the point of escorting me to and from the bathroom in the middle of the night. When he got older and it was harder for him to get on and off the bed, he would sit at attention at the corner of the bed until I returned and then resume sleeping position. At the age of 14, after a long period of failing health, Tuffy suffered a stroke and was hospitalized, falling into a coma. I had gone to bed that night, while Katie restlessly prowled the house. Suddenly, she began to yowl and run from room to room. I finally got her calmed down and then the phone rang; the vet calling to tell me that Tuffy had passed away, at the exact time of Katie’s running fit. One night not long after, I had gone to bed, with Katie in her accustomed place at the foot of the bed. As I waited to fall asleep, I heard purring and felt Katie walk up to my left shoulder, but when I reached out to pet her, there was nothing there, and I realized that Katie was still between my feet! I believe Tuffy’s brave little spirit came back to let me know that he was now well and happy and still watching over me until we meet at the Rainbow Bridge.
My cats got tuna juice Sunday, my wife made me some tuna salad, when she opened the can they were so excited, she told them it’s real tuna this time, not canned peas. They came running, Reilly was already there because he doesn’t nap much, just hangs out when we’re around, but Sadie even ran downstairs from her beauty sleep on the bed.

Puck could easily pass by using his business card inscribed “Count Alukcup” and none of the (1930’s) party guests would suspect a thing.

Night time sharpens, heightens each sensation,
Hunger stirs the cat’s imagination
Silently the cats soon
Go out in search of tuna,
Packets of such juicy fish delight!
Time to have the snack time of the night!
Softly, gently, opening the larder
Foil pouches yielding tuna water!
No need for the can
Opener, no need for a plan!
Just a nip from fangs and it’s alright!
Ready for the snack time of the night!
Make a bite and journey to culinary bliss,
Leave the foil for the Humans all to clean,
Drink the juice and then go back to dream!
Of the kibble and treats that are unseen.
Floating, falling foil packs on the floor
Happy cats, and Humans go to the store,
More tuna to be bought, but will the cats get caught?
No matter, everything will be alright.
Tomorrow’s a new snack time of the Night!
