The future is always ahead of us, the past always behind. The present is forever and slipping past us bit by tiny bit. Planning for the future is a good idea. For power outtage, for flooding, for food shortages etc.
“Ain’t no sense worrying: If you have no control over something, ain’t no sense worrying about it -you have no control over it anyway. If you do have control, why worry? So either way, there ain’t no sense worrying.”-Mickey Rivers
In some cultures, the language does not have a ‘future’ tense - present and future are spoken of the same way. A major study a few years ago showed that people raised speaking that type of language were much better at planning for their future (i.e., saving) - presumably because they saw it as part of their present. Just something to think about . . .

I tried to live by the motto Forget about the past and plan for the future, but the bill collectors had another idea.

The “tab” is coming due soon and our children and children’s children will pay it. We need to change our ways.
