Breaking the walls on many levels, nice! (If you understand french try to find “Imbattable” the author created a very impressive 4th wall breaking superhero.)
I am new to (new) Nancy. Read it as a kid with the original artist. Kinda liking this new version better. How does one get assigned to take over an existing strip? I’ve been gone for decades. When did Olivia take over?
I have basically HATED this new strip since Jaimes started. Ok, I dug “Sluggo is lit!”, but overall, have come close to dropping it yet for some reason did not. THIS strip, today, shows me, finally, that they did right by hiring her to do the strip. Today I have seen genius at work. This is arresting, especially the pure visual joy in panels 3 & 4. (Or, are they really one panel done quite originally?)
BRINGING UP FATHER sometimes used this sort of trick. Jiggs might escape Maggie by climbing out of one tier of panels down into the next. Jaimes know show to have fun with her strip in the manner of the classics. I’ve enjoyed the new NANCY.
I can’t stop thinking about this comic, so I wrote a blog post about it. https://karnicky.blogspot.com/2019/01/is-this-best-nancy-strip-ever-olivia.html
I think that ms. Jaimes read the Italian Nobel Prize Luigi Pirandello : the man who , with his dramas for the theatre , broke the fourth wall at the beginning of the past century .
Now that I look at it again, she could have just stood on the ladder and reached them off the fridge in the next panel. No need to lob an unpredictable container with a loose lid.
If cartoon characters were all smart like me, they wouldn’t have to have such amusing antics.
Bonus: I’m pretty sure the comic below Nancy is the appropriately meta “Webcomic Name”, which parodies common webcomic tropes: http://webcomicname.com/

Keen students will note Fritzi’s Nancy does not have the much-debated drop panel.
But mostly I absolutely love this.

How meta can you get? A strip within a strip. They know and accept they are characters in a strip. OJ IS LIT!!

I have not been overly impressed by Olivia Jaimes’s version of Nancy, but this one is both funny and original.

Overall, a great Sunday gag!

The design of this – especially the paper Fritzi holds up – is very C. Ware.

okay, clever….I will now hate the new artist a little less…

This is clearly set in the future, as Fritzi has some oversized foldable tablet. Or did this debut at CES last week?

Don’t newspapers sometimes “restack” sunday strips? Maybe this is a bit of a thumb in the of eye of some comic page editors?

But Aunt Fritzi’s newspaper has 9 panels, where as my version only has 8. Fritzi’s panel 3 doesn’t exist in the original.

Just realized — Fritzi’s newspaper version has nine panels, while ours has only eight. What secrets of the universe are told in that ninth panel?
