That was tried with an old friend of mine. The result was that she has always been confused between right and left. When she took a dance class in high school she had to wear colored ribbons on her wrists. When we both stood in a circle doing a ‘pass the gesture’ concentration exercise, she was the only one who did it with the opposite hand from the the leader- and she seemed unaware of that. She still writes with her left.
I confuse right and left because I did theatre most of my life. Looking at the stage from the director’s POV, right and left are reversed, because they’re oriented to the actors. I still see them switched when I hear about the political right and left, imagining the right to the left of my mental image, and vice versa.
The psychological problems are with those who try to force the children to use the other hand. It’s all based on the superstition of sheep on the right and goats on the left or something like that.
My Granny told me I was a southpaw as a child, til I entered first grade and they made me use my right hand. I cannot write legibly with either now! I started learning to type early on, and thank goodness for computers!
…. of course they didn’t stop my sister from being one a few years later SIGH
Why do parents do that anyway? Is being left-handed somehow “bad” (holdover from Medieval days when it was a sign of the Devil, or somesuch?). I understood that forcing a left hander to switch can cause stuttering, at least. (So why is it that a good left-handed pitcher, or “Southpaw”, is considered so valuable?)
When growing up (haven’t paid as much attention to this as a adult) it always seemed to me that there were far more left-handed boys than left-handed girls – basically a left-handed girl was a rarity. I wonder if that is really true?

There was a time being left meant the devil was inside you.

My 2nd grade teacher made me switch. I write and eat right handed but still do sports & mechanics left handed.

A nun tried that with our daughter until I insisted she leave her alone. Left handed people are not evil, we’re just in our right minds.

“Perfectly normal” is an oxymoron. If you’re perfect, you certainly not normal.

I’m left handed in hand writing and using chopsticks. Everything else I tend to do right handed.

I had a bad stutter but it was overcome with voice therapy when young. It still exists, just under control.
