He didn’t want to kiss her before, and now he’s asking her out on a date? Daffy Duck: “Would it be too much to ask if we could make up our minds? Hmm?”

What dorky name would this guy be? Percival, Demetrius, Ildefonso?

Gunther?

This is sly, and I wonder if Luann is doing it purposely. He is being prompted to pick himself as the guy picked for her, and she might do the same, pick him for her. Which is why the phones are swapped as to profile. This is 99% likely to continue on Monday, and still the possibility of them having a romance is possible, in a very tricky alluring (to all of us) way. Check out that sideways glance in panel 3. Plus Gunther is going along with it. Sly dog Greg. Or in the interest of misdirection, maybe not.

I think Gunther might finally be seeing the light…

Gunther can’t stand the idea of Les being with a woman in whom he is interested. It’s hard to imagine he would like the idea of picking any man for Luann, even a genteel one.

Is Gunther actually making a joke? Luann’s facial expression in response is just right. Anyway – today’s strip looks like the runway to a new arc Monday.

I think those dating sites are as safe as playing Russian roulette!

Gunther has now picked out the right guy for Luann. Now, about that name. Gunther will pick a name to use in place of his. Something sexy, something with an Italian flair – “Testostero”. Makes me think of a Lamborghini.

The problem with “just for fun” is that someone else is not in it for “fun.”

Many, many, years ago, when people printed things on paper, the magazine Private Eye published ads from people looking for partners. Most of the people described themselves in such a way that one would have thought such wonderful people wouldn’t need to advertise.

But I saw one that said simply “Mediocre male seeks soppy female for dismal dates.”

I hope he was successful, found a soppy female, and that they were very happy together.

He’s trying to get out of the friend zone.

The look on luann’s face in the third panel suggests she wrote that about him and she’s hoping he’ll realize that.

I like his sense of humor.

This comic strip is a bit out of date. The stigma around online dating sites went out about 10 years ago.

I just hope they all have photos and Gunther does not pick Les Knox.

Hmmm… looks like ol’ Gunth is finally trying to step up to the plate a bit – and Luann’s expression lets on that this whole thing might be of some grand design of her devising. Stay tuned…

Since they’re holding each other’s phones, I wonder if Luann made Gunther like her profile.

Two good friends enjoying each other company! I’ve been saying for quite awhile now, that Gunther needed a female friend. One that he trusts, never dreaming that friend would be an old, friend named “Luann.” Les has got Pru, and Gunther has got Lu thanks to Pru.

Okay Gunther. You’ve had two young women sitting on that bed. First Tiffany, now Luann. Time to be less “Gunthery” and more Genteel. Ask Lu out on a date and above all, RELAX. You’re just two friends sharing each other’s company, that’s all. At least for now. Put that self pity of yours in the recycle bin. FOR GOOD.

Speaking of Tiffany, it’s past time you called her up and apologized to her for making an arse out of yourself during last year’s double dinner date debacle. Take her some roses and apologize profusely. She might just forgive you. Besides, she has an evil soon to be stepmother and she could use another friend besides Les. A REAL ONE, this time.

Oh. You need to know about this Jack” guy Lu’s been hanging with. You’re NOT supposed to know him yet, but I’m telling you now, so you’ll be prepared. When you DO find out about him “officially,” act surprised. But (And Listen Carefully) DO NOT GET JEALOUS! Keep that strong friendship with Lu going, and if she chooses Jack? Well, accept it and move on. (That’s another reason you NEED to mend fences with Tiffany, just in case)

Just remember Gunny. Luann choose to spend Valentines Day with You, dressed very nicely and sitting on your bed, and not with Jack. Don’t forget that. Now, it’s time to turn on the Charm….., ;)

This is torture. C’mon, 99% normal average guys with rood blood would probably see that she likes him and would at least date her. Unless of he falls into that 1% who need a lightning strike to see the light!

Back on Jan. 30th, Luann presented with purple pants. Now they’re black!

SHERIFF MORDECAI Give us a clue!! Has a change of clothing occurred in Gunther’s bedroom while we weren’t watching? Or are they just Mood Pants??? Black is a much hotter look.

Speculating where G&K may be going with this in the future:

They have invested a lot of ink in the slow development of the Jack character and his relationship with Luann. They have been on real dates and while Jack is presented as being “palsy,” Luann has, at the least, “looked twice” upon him as long term dating material. Now they’ve teased that Luann doesn’t totally see Gunther as a “guy she used to know in high school” and future dating may be in the offing.

Tiffany has been placed in dating limbo after the dinner date blow up and is mired in family issues. However, there is the one tussle (literally) with Luann over Jack at the kid center. Though we don’t know exactly when that took place in Luann time; Tiff’s mood just didn’t seem to fit with her situation at the time.

Tara’s still playing the short-term field. So is Les, but much more aggressively.

We are poised for something to happen but I just don’t think G&K are ready to pull the trigger yet! Sigh.

Luann, looking all sexy for a change, its time to make YOUR move, pull Gunther down, and make all his doubts go away.

He apparently, is playing right in to her well thought out plan.

Just get on with it already. How many months until these two go on a date?

I hope this is the end of this storyline. Two long, boring weeks.

It’s up to the creator(s) to decide the direction of the strip, but it seems to me that every time they begin expanding the world since Toni came on board (Pru, Jack, etc.), they pull back to the original characters and push the others to the sidelines. It’s making for an increasingly insular strip, one that practically resets at the end of major storylines, while Pru and Ox and Jack and the rest relegated to cameos.

I thought the storyline was going toward Jack for Luann. I like Gunther but I think Jack is better for Luann. More exciting.

I tried a dating site after my wife passed. After 3 dates I gave it up……all were nutso.

9:20 Mountain Time: At first glance, I almost fell into the Gunther is gay rabbit hole, thinking that the profile he was reading was for him!

Shaking the grogginess out of my head, then I thought, well, I guess he found someone else for Luann to date. After all, that is what they just agreed to do for each other.

Only after reading through a couple hundred comments did it occur to me that perhaps Gunther was suggesting Luann date him!

Or, am I still asleep?

Got to hand it to them: G&K are masters of obfuscation! Or, is this just another case of when Occam’s Razor is lɐnsn sɐ ƃuoɹʍ?

They’re both being upfront and healthy about the ‘online dating’ scene. Gunther is joking about himself, WITH Luann. He’s showing self assurance. Luann is responding with a knowing smile! ‘Oh! The Places You’ll (Perhaps, COULD) Go!!’

So now Luann should say: “No, I mean three people we don’t already know.” Because Gunthy needs to be kicked out of his comfort zone.

What’s funny is Gunthy calling other guys pathetic. Has he looked in a mirror lately?

If that look from Luann in the last frame means anything, she is setting him up with her…

My guess is it is Quill and he is using a derivative of that name.

Luann stop trying to pimp out Gunther when you are the one for him.

I’ve been married 32 years to a Gunthie. He thought I was the cat’s pajamas since 6th grade but I didn’t see it until after we graduated high school. Couldn’t be happier <3 Go for it Luann!

Gunther is a somewhat dorky name, not like David or Vladimir.

I like Luann’s idea. Just for fun and experience.

It could be that the color change of Luann’s pants may not be attributed to the colorist, Sheriff Mordecai, at all. Since Sheriff Mordecai gets them needing to be colorized, it is possible that Greg may have sent the black and white strips to Sheriff, and on a couple of days, the pants were left white to be colorized by Sheriff. On the other days, Greg may have accidentally filled them in with black, and in that case, they were left black. Just a guess…
