You would think college students could staple papers together properly. They do not unless you make them. When it is a class of ten, whatever, when it is hundreds. Staple it right or get a zero.

True story: I served jury duty for a sex/age discrimination case. Literally half of the argument was how to properly staple papers. (The other half was how to use a collator…then it was revealed at the end that the company didn’t even have one.)

It lasted four very long days. If you can explain how that is sex/age discrimination, you’ll do a better job than they did.

And I’d put about 25 staples in the paper next time. I’m like that.

Sometimes people have reasons that have nothing to do with reason.

I flunked out of college and many years later I decided to go back for my bachelor’s and some kid in admissions was giving me static on whether they would take my money and let me take night courses. The little sh*t actually was trying to lord it over me as if I cared what he thought. I took calculus and it turned into a waste of time because the instructor wound up teaching math as my classmates had no ideas about basic math. I didn’t bother going back, an associate’s was good enough to get a good job.

Maybe Luann will date Batiuk. Because her life is too happy.

Please don’t tell me this is the new Gunther… the old one is still on the pad at launch failure.

Just another dweeb guy who wants to have some kind of interaction with an unobtainable woman, however brief and inconsequential. He probably realizes that Lu wouldn’t think twice about him, so he has to use what little influence he has to have any kind of close encounter. Little does he know that Luann already counts the Nerd King (Gunther) as a lifelong friend!

If you change it to yellow that’s almost a Charlie Brown shirt Howie has on. Maybe Luann is destined to be his “little red haired girl”?

Why does Howie even care about how it’s stapled? It’s not like it’s that important. It makes me wonder if he has OCD.

Why does he care about Luann do he think she will take his job or that she is better than him.

Welcome to attractive girl world Luann. Now go ask Tiff for advice on how to deal. Also, get used to this if your going to be a teacher. Details and documentation matter when you are applying for credentials, fingerprints, arguing with the district payroll dept to pay you. Yes, they will ding you for two staples.

By having Luann attract geeks, hilarity ensues. If she attracted romantic guys, then things could get… messy, and the strip tries to steer clear of young adults’ actually acting like young adults. So, we’re back to a thoroughly junior-high type situation (double stapling), with Howie the tyrannical nerd, a thoroughly junior-high type of guy. This raises the question of whether it was a good idea to move the strip to college in the first place, as opposed to simply re-booting it in its familiar high school setting by introducing new characters (such as young Tara and young Jack) into it.

What’s it to him? Is she using HIS stapler or something? Sometimes one staple can be loose and wiggle its way through the paper, I liked to put 2 staples overlapping in a little “X” to create a stronger bond.

Howie’s father is Big Irving. The 142nd fastest gun in the west. Always looking for number 143…

Luann should get permission to bring Puddles to that class as a comfort dog, and when Howie nags her, Puddles can do his thing. He can ‘puddle’. What did you think I meant?!

Is Jack jealous?

Do you suppose that Mr Evans had some sort of science TA who was hung up on such things as stapling papers at a 45° angle? It’s too believable, but at the same time something you’d be unlikely to just make up.

In terms of lazy nerd stereotypes, this strip is reminiscent of Saved By The Bell. Remember how the nerds on that show were so over-the-top that they made Screech look normal by comparison? Gunther is probably grateful for Howie’s existence right about now…

Even if Tara call him dictator Howie looks like a gentle, shy boy. I hope he’s be like this. Because if Luann rejects him he could take revenge on her thanks of his position of power.

I’ve worked for people like that.

So far, just dweebs coming on to Luann, excepting Quill. I hope this theme expands to good looking guys hitting on Luann – where hopefully Luann remains selective.

It’s the Mark of Greg: Elwood, Gunther, Leslie, Uncle Al, Knute, Nil, laughing boy TJ, Prof. Zebo, and now, Howie. Not a parade of pretty boys by any stretch. And, for the girls: Tara, Fay, Crystal, Luann (when she “cleans up”), Tiffany, Nancy, and Toni. No contest: Greg does not think very highly of men.
