I remember when my mother started to complain about TV and movie performers mumbling all of the time. I had no idea what she was talking about. Turned out she was going deaf. She does fine with hearing aids now.
This makes me realize how blessed I am to be able (at 73) to still hear birds singing, the lapping of water against the lake shore, any so many other auditory sounds!
We had a friend – a little old lady – who swore she could hear just fine. (Don’t they all?) She kept her TV turned up so loud that if you were walking barefoot upstairs you could feel the floor vibrate. It made you feet tingle!
Exact portrayal of the situation at our house. I admitted defeat about 20 years ago, but my OH is still at the “Oh, do stop mumbling !” stage, and has been for some time.
When I was young, I tested above average in hearing, but I could never make out words in songs when there was instrumental music with them, or hear people talking in the car when it was raining. Now that I’m in my 70s, I have mild hearing loss (especially in the ear that had an infection years ago) and use hearing aids. I enjoy listening to music and use them all day. Oddly, I still have trouble hearing in noisy backgrounds, but the hearing aids I use can hone in on one direction or be set to screen out some of the background. For me, well worth the price!

Yes, Opal needs her hearing aid adjusted as soon as she’ll first get fitted with one.

My hearing aids are fine. I put them in once a week just to be sure they still work.

I’m pestered by mail from the various hearing aid firms. It began when I signed up for SS. It’s annoying.

She didn’t say, “You don’t have to yell”?

Seems like Earl has the talking softly part down. Now he needs a big stick.

I can hear you just fine, I just can’t understand what you’re saying. It’s a bit garbled.

My boss refuses to get hearing aids or bifocals. He says they make him feel old.

My hearing is fine. If:
You are looking at me, and speaking clearly
I am looking at you and paying attention
The background noise is low and not other people talking
And you have something to say that I want to hear. :)

At least that’s not a problem for me yet, but my eyes are getting weird! I think I look @ my pad too much. Things get a little blurred after a while
