Such a beautiful picture! A beautiful late spring sight. Our peeps are out tonight after a light thunder shower. Haven’t seen lightning bugs here for a few years. Seem to be In decline.
OT: Nushi – 1st test results are back and it’s bad. Almost surely FIP. The ataxia grows worse every day. Seeing her wobbly gait today I can barely believe Monday night I wasn’t sure something was wrong. She’s toppling over more and more and it breaks my heart to see my lithe, graceful ballerina girl in this state. From what I can tell she isn’t in discomfort except she’s confused as to why she can’t move well. Still eating, with perhapsa slight decrease in appetite. All other signs of health…soft shiny coat, good stools, all there. I’ve sent the results to a specialist at UC Davis and continue to look for a study or some way to get her the new drugs that have helped, but they’re only available on the black market and they might not work for her form of FIP…
My heart hurts and I’m not sure how long I will have my beautiful girl, but I’m doing my best to keep her comfortable and loved and to enjoy her while I can. It’s just so hard to stay in the moment with her, but her gloriously loud purr helps. Thanks again for your support and for listening. Nushi will be 10 mo old on 6/10.
You just knew Baba Mouse and the robber mice would show up! I love Alice’s tambourine. What a delightful happy musical scene!! What fun they are having under the fireflies’ lights.
This is so lovely. The first panel, showing serene nature, just fireflies and peepers. Then the wild, joyous shindig that none of the people know anything about.
OT: My oldest son had his shoulder surgery yesterday. After he was released (it was out-patient) we had lunch and picked up his pain meds. Then my daughter and I ran a couple of errands right quick for stuff to make his life easier while he heals. Unfortunately, at 4AM, he came and said he needed to go to the emergency room because he was sick to his stomach. I took him and it turns out he’s in DKA. He’s a diabetic and his body was responding to the stress of surgery. They admitted him. He’ll be fine in a day or two and they’ll release him. He could get out later today.
Meanwhile, my younger son is coming over to help finish my new wheelchair trailer so I can go places by myself if I need to.
One of my cats disappeared into the redwoods during a thunderstorm the day we moved into a new home. He returned three days later with tales of improbable adventures and how he had been made a Prince of the Redwoods at a party much like the one shown. What? He never lied to me before.
There are a lot of reasons this is my favorite strip. When it first appeared, I was not doing well at all; I was done with chemo but my feet were (and still are) messed up, and at the time the cardiologist was trying to find a blood pressure medicine that didn’t cause more side effects than help. I was undergoing tests to see if I had a collapsed vertebra (about the only spine problem I don’t have, as it turns out) and waiting on an epidural, and there was a tropical storm forming (soon after, my AC went out, and I live on the Gulf Coast). When I opened the site, and read the strip, I found myself remembering a lot of things. The story I mentioned yesterday about all the kids in the neighborhood in my yard (and it makes me miss my mother), sitting on the back of my future mother-in-law’s car talking to my fiancée as we watched the tree across the street (at a house we would eventually share) as it lit with flashing lights, walking outside on a warm spring or summer night before the mosquitoes have found you, listening to the steady susurrus of the night life, picnics, fireworks, playing softball at night (lots of fun if you are 10), and it made me think of a book I read entitled A Lost Tale by Dale Esty. Both the book and the strip are magic.
Today’s strip reminds me of the wonderfully strange Over The Garden Wall, where they encounter a riverboat full of frogs and accidentally wind up in the band.
I just noticed one of the robber mice girls being tossed into the air, by her peep frog dancing partner…oh my cat…that just amps up the joy in this comic by 1000! : D
Back in grade school, little girls of the time carried real cloth hankies when they had a cold, instead of wads of tissue. I recently ran across one of mine that has a colorful, if a bit crude, illustration of “Hey Diddle Diddle”, taken from a Little Golden Book. The hanky is in good shape, not at all faded, so I’ve been thinking about framing it somehow.
Loved it!! For some reason it reminds me of the 1984 animated film “Rupert and the Frog Song” written and produced by Sir Paul McCartney. You can view a five minute clip at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4xeidmjy6s

Sing with me
Beneath the shining moonlight
Peep toads
Play in the green green grass,
Dancing to the tune of Baba’s fiddle
Among the tiny mushrooms, I feel so blessed.
…….
Oh, sing along
Beneath a Van Gogh painting
Lead me, Ginger with Fred Astaire,
Come on and play a tune,
On this first day in June,
Fireflies sparkling,
Sing with me!
