The thing that seriously pisses off my wife is that “This Old House” is timed to exactly correspond to our local begging month, so we never see the end of a segment. Ever.
Say hello to Terry. Every couple of years I donate a cameo role in Frazz to be auctioned off in my little town’s Men’s Club auction so they can do things like build parks and fund scholarships and otherwise improve our corner of the world. Terry wasn’t the high bidder. Terry may not have even known about the auction. He doesn’t live here. But his family does, and they knew he’s a Frazz fan and they clearly like him a lot.
I like Terry a lot, too, for making my job easy. In all the years of donating the cameo role, I have not had one single what-am-I-going-to-do-with-this-guy lemon. Everybody has fit right in, and I’ve even become good friends with a number of them. But when Terry’s family described him as an avid runner and huge NPR fan, I knew this one wasn’t going to be a struggle at ALL.
I had to make it tough on myself and figure out how to shoot a scene entirely above the waist while still making it clear everybody was out for a run. Which, come on. Bring it on. That’s heaven.

All things considered, a pretty good metaphor.

Terry certainly nailed the profile for NPR. The money comes in: the money goes . . .?

Since at least most of these folks are teachers, this probably isn’t being done on a weekday. So this must be the Weekend Edition of their run.

The support is raining in. The collection system is a gutter with giant downspout.

Thanks, Terry. And Terry’s family.
