This never happens if you go through the drive-through, but my closest Starbucks has no drive-through. In this case, he would’ve had to go through the wormhole-through, though. Not so convenient.
I have plastic coffee mug that I removed the bottom plate from, and replaced it with the magnet from a CB radio antenna. The magnet fit perfectly to where it was invisible even from close up.
It’s been a long time since I’ve done it, but I use to place it in a precarious position on the roof of my car, like right on the slope at the edge of the roof, and do my normal driving.
When folks would wave and gesture at me about the cup, I’d just grin, wave back, and keep driving. :O)
What I do when I have to put things down to open the door is put them right up against the windshield on the driver’s side. That way, if I forget them, I’ll see them before I start the car.

Well I’ve done that. It stayed on the wing during taxi out, but not on takeoff. Airport complained I left FOD on the runway.

Some kind of a newfangled magnet that holds the cup in place? Time marches on.
