Play. Need more play & dreams. We used to be great innovators while other countries had kids in school far more hours. And we thought that was a good idea, so now kids spend their time on homework instead of creative play & dreaming.
Working harder, suffering, denying oneself are not always the course of success for oneself or the society at large.
We now produce idiots and fools aplenty. As a group they can be found run amok in the GOP occasionally let out to rant and howl like hyenas as they did in Congress yesterday. We are now in deep doo-doo as one former member would oft complain, if this is the lay of the land in present day America.
The leading manufacturing country by dollar volume is China. The USA is #2 on that measure. That means we produce more than every other country except China. However, the population of China is far larger. On a per-capita basis, the USA out-produces China five-to-one. Not bad for a country that, according to our esteemed, well-informed, and thoroughly rational cartoonist, has “no idea how to produce anything.” Why has this entire stream of commentary blithely accepted this completely false idea? Are you all so out of touch with reality that you swallow this blither whole?
They are all too busy getting involved with politics to do their jobs—for which they get paid WAY too much money. Luckily, I have over 9000 classic movies on disc, so I don’t have to watch remakes.
The Chinese workers are expecting more $$ and production is shifting. I expect India will be the new China, with less territorial ambitions and more friendly to the west. They pretty have the CSR business locked up.
“It is, regrettably, no exaggeration to say that we are living in an era of irrationality, deception, confusion, anger, and unfocused fear — an ominous combination, with few precedents. There has never been a time when it was so important to have a voice of sanity, insight, understanding of what is happening in the world. " – Noam Chomsky

Kind of like the movie industry, eh? Easier to remake an oldie than come up with an original script.

I had a dollar. I met a man with a dollar. We exchanged dollars, and when we parted we each still had only a dollar.
I had an idea. I met a man with an idea. We exchanged ideas, and when we parted we each had TWO ideas.

Every idea that has been thought of has been thought of before. The only difference is the time frame between them.

What we need are political ideas that are better than Blame the other guy.
Can somebody come up with ideas to fix the problems – that don’t involve actually lining a friends pocket? I know, it’s crazy talk.

Classic ideas might be those that were tried and worked and need only updating to apply now. The others . . . only time will tell.
