what a handful all those cats are for the boys, isn’t it? (after returning from my family summer road trip in ’98, we got four cats to replace the two we put down; the last one — who was aging — was done before we left)
If they’re that much of a handful, just put them in the bathroom with a litter box and some food and shut the door. Make sure the toilet lid is down. They’re cats, they take care of themselves.
Of course, there’s that weird “6am feeding” thing. I don’t get that at all, since these aren’t three-week-old kittens. They look like they’re about eight weeks old, as they should be before adoption.
Well the “Catzenjammer Kids,” seem to holding their own here with the felines. And even Les seems be (SIGH) Softening up! (NO, I can’t BELIEVE I just typed that either)
I dunno where the REST of the cats will end up, but I’m foreseeing at least two cats taking up permanent residence in the Gulag. And it’ll be because their wanted.
Les SHOULD keep that kitten. Some young lady’s heart is liable to melt when she see’s him stroking a kitten, and he may soon have his very own “Bets.” But PLEASE, not Tiffany! :)
Hey. You want Les to adopt a cat? Well just let him find out his HATED mom Ann Eiffel is Allergic to cats! Les will WANT a cat. (Heck, Tiffany will want to adopt ALL of them) Les will gleefully want to visit and “bond” with his mother (Like SHE wanted) just TORTURE her.
Besides, it’s about time he went over and MET his future step dad, Tom. And Les should take that kitten WITH him! ;)
With the apparent softening of Les’ character (as some have opined above) the strip is becoming devoid of antagonistic characters. Tiffany and her epic encounters with Luann over boyfriends. Les as the devious bully. Even TJ spent some time in the bad-boy position (the firefighter scam, the suspicious rolling lunch wagon fire). Ann Eiffel is the only pure antagonistic character left in the strip. Where will the drama come from without irredeemable characters?
Will the strip drama content devolve into “The Turbulent Love Lives Of Luann And Friends”?
I, for one, LOVE the kitty arc (kittens and Moe alike). I think it has lots of opportunities, such as growth in Les (as we’re already glimpsing), and a chance for the boys to bond a little. It also makes sense for Al and Irma to adopt some pets, and it’s very sweet.
Les had a almost kind look on his face, catching the little grey klutzy kitty. The little feline dude or dudette has not gotten the ability to jump like big old Moe can. Does this mean that a bond might occur here? Hmmm.
Did Gunther really say he looked in mom’s closet? Probably okay, but not something I’d be mentioning. Les had better stay out of places that are that private or he may be wondering, “Does Uncle Al have a permit for all these guns.”
Moe has the power of teleportation. He just teleported himself from the arm of the couch to the upper back of the couch. Be careful – Moe has powers. He already wished the yellow/orange kitten off to the cornfield. It is a good thing you did, Moe, a good thing…
I am glad today’s interaction is not overtly Unger/Madison-ish. :)
Moe seems a cat who is nonplussed by life. :)
It is interesting how Les seems to be being more kind and gentle towards the kitty. That is a good thing to show in Les…. and is nice to see.
* * *
In regards to the word “nonplussed”….. it is a very interesting word….. technically , its formal definition is to exhibit a state that is akin to being surprised or confused. But at the same time, it has a more colloquial use to mean almost the exact opposite….. namely to be unperturbed, unconcerned, “unruffled”. In my comment about Moe, I am using this latter definition.
Note how Les “accidentally on purpose” dropped the grey cat. I wouldn’t trust him as far as I can throw him. Doesn’t he realize that Moe is a male cat?
So G&K decided to introduce a whole bunch of pets (5 cats) into an arc and I’ve been thinking that (in addition to satisfying Irma’s maternal instincts) they may have chosen to do this in order to create a tie-in with Jack who is studying to be a veterinarian or a veterinary tech; just a thought
Being a dog lover, this arc is about as lame as it gets, but we did have two cats that both lived to be twenty, Kitty and Worthless. They ruled my greyhounds with an iron paw.

Now, go find the yellow one.

Perhaps the striped one was in mom’s closet “decorating” one of her shoes…

Irma did not bring home an orange kitty. The only orange is Moe who is not a kitty.

Hold on—Les actually showed concern for the cat that’s been clawing him?

In the third frame, Les seems to be warming up to “Clawed”…did his heart just grow three sizes today? ;-)

Notice Les’s expression? He’s not scowling.

Ah, excellent. Gunther finished the cat scan.
And Les is actually helping! Exceeding expectations!
Moe is precisely meeting expectations.

Moe is (in my humble opinion) what TV Tropes calls “ugly cute”.

Let ‘em fall. They learn to land on their feet fast. And kittens bounce (just don’t try to dribble one).

Awww… Les is become the Mom of the gray kitten. Moe has the air of a Mr. Cat. Wise, grumpy, strong, and with an unexpected agility.

Moe: the same range of facial expressions as Al. Gunther: needs a haircut, he’s starting to look too much like Irma.
