Well THAT was a shock. A complete shift in the story, a change to photo-realistic starscape, a journey through time and space, and even a change in the dimensions of the strip. This may be Neathery’s 2001: A Space Odyssey moment.Brilliant. And free. Please pay him.
What an incredible page! Aaron so perfectly controls the black/white medium. I really think that color would take away from this. Especially the stark whiteness of the topsider’s suit.
Honestly that middle panel looks like pre-war Earth as seen from space, if you were on a space station upside down. Or looking down inverted. I guess there’s really no “up” or “down” in low or zero G.
panels 1&2 Surf, panel 3 sky, 4&5 a Void with a topsider climbing up to the top of the cliffs and the pièce de résistance, the hatch is visible in the last panel.
Hard to believe, but I had to go all the way back to March 1 to get a look at the missing tape recorder. That could be what he’s got in his hand. We had an invisible topsider on the beach. We know one sure way to make things invisible here – dittos. Now back when Wally and Co were saved by AM, the topsiders seemed to have no understanding of dittos, now we have one using them to abduct kids from a beach. My guess is when this guy retreated into the surf, his dittos got washed off, which is why he’s not splattered with paint. The paint wasn’t on him, but on the dittos. Now he’s back on land and visible, and has the tape recorder, so it must still play a part in the story in some way. We are still only scratching the surface of what’s really going on here.

I’m more interested in those insects… other than Chic’s pet, we haven’t seen any insects—or actual animals—in this world.

I’ve been suspecting this, interstatial transit, the “I am the nothing” and the comic book characters transferring around.

I think this is the view of the beach from the Topsider perspective (reality?).

What are the odds that this Topsider is really this dimension’s embodiment of Ravenscroft?
