“Deux ex machina” here, but welcome here. I’d hate for Wally and company to get bogged down here. The story has moved too slowly for my taste, in the first place. To pend the next six months in a battle to get to the surface may cause me to forget even more details – such as, why they wanted to get to the top in the first place!
Hurray for the dittoes! The bullyboys claimed they weren’t going to kill, but those were full-force potentially-lethal swings to shatter against the ditto shield like that.
@RickD: “They” are the colony’s administrators. The ones who put up the “closed for the holiday” sign on their office door to deter Wally from speaking with them. The ones who took Wally off construction duty and stuck him in the laundry room with Alan. The panda on the administrative board is at least sympathetic to Wally, but she may be the only one who is, and a single voice amongst several.
Apparently, “they” didn’t explain the pure power of the dittoes. Or maybe these guys failed to get the implications of dittoes bringing down rock facings…
Love the difference in expressions for Wally and Duffy. Duffy may want to re-think trying to hide information from Wally once they get past these two cretins.
Assuming the baseball bats were of good quality, then judging how they snapped from hitting the ditto shield, imagine what havoc they would have wreaked if they had connected properly with a person! Those two security wardens would really have broken bones.
How did “they” find out about dittos? All “they” know was that Wally somehow managed to magically open up a whole room from solid rock. And how do “they” know they’re called dittos? It seems to me Wally’s kept his mouth shut about his little friends.

I don’t think those were Louisville Sluggers™, they were obviously cheap knockoffs.

“They”!? “They” who? What kind of warning? “Go ahead and hit them with bats, but watch out for the ditto things”?

Is Wally’s tail fluffy yet? I would not cross anyone with that look on their face!

Wally’s nonchalant attitude certainly is nice.

If they used their fists, would the dittos separate them into their separate parts, too?

Dittos to the rescue! I hope they help protect Chic and Kirbee while Wally’s away.

“Uh, Sure!” “But before ya go; could you remove these new stains from our shorts?”

I don’t think the dittos weakened nor broke the bats.I think Wally put an invisible shield up.

Things that can carve a huge perfect tunnel in solid stone in minutes. Yeah, time to back down.

Love the last panel. “This is futile, and you are wasting our time.”

I don’t know why, but at the moment I’m finding Endtown strangely satisfying.

That’s the wall. Duffy and Wally are actually standing 2 feet to the right.

Nice.

They should be happy that the dittos just destroyed one bat instead of them.

I like the look on Duffy’s face in panel 4. It looks like he has realized that he had underestimated Wally.

wow, he didn’t even BLINK, I knew he’d get out of the situation easily but I figured he’d have to do a hand gesture or something…

Dunno. Moose is bright enough to recognize, but dumb enough to try again. Sorta like manager…
