LOL! So far, Shannon doesn’t even know Jack is there! And Jack doesn’t look at all amused! So much for the “theory” that some wishful thinkers Here, have that somehow Shannon is going to “encourage” Jack to “hook up” with Luann!
If anything, THIS should Cement Jack and Lu’s “friend zone,” status once and for all. If THAT!
This arc is getting off to a GOOD start!
PS: Jack’s niece is 14 years old. I wonder if Jack’s niece is Fay?
In the 3rd panel, Jack’s quieter tone of voice and look to the side seems to suggest that Fay is Jack’s niece, given Fay is soft-spoken, has black hair, and was 13 years old last year.
When it comes to toy stores, kids Shannon’s age do demand to go there and browse and parents expect to be picked upon to buy something they want. Shannon is being a normal 6 year old. However, if the trip is for a gift for Jack’s niece, this is a good time to give a lesson to Shannon about buying something for someone else and going to the mall for that person, not her. As for the gift for her niece, just get her a gift card to Ulta or Sephora or Bath Works. Don’t buy gift card for clothing shops – they are so taste-specific. Best leave that to the mom to take the niece there. Gift card for the convenience stores such as Quik Trip or Circle K will go well – teens love junk food. Or Amazon gift card – wide world of retail there for her to choose.
Why is everyone assuming Jack is going to buy something from the toy store for his niece? Perhaps they’ll just swing by there for a minute to shut Shannon up.
“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. “Oh, no,” I said, “Disneyland burned down.” He cried and cried, but I think that, deep down, he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting late." – Jack Handey (SNL Deep Thoughts)
Lol…speak for yourself! At 14, tons of stuff in a toy store would interest me. Creative stuff, like make your own rock crystals, puzzles, maybe even some collectable toys depending what I was into. Was into star wars back then, would have loved star wars dolls, etc. Posters, stuff like that. Now at 54, I am STILL interested in that stuff!! Even Legos!! Hehe, you are never too old for fun!!
Nice, Luann and Jack can manage to ignore Shannon’s whims thanks to a natural mutual agreement between them. I like how polite Jack is in saying that Shannon has a bossy behavior, he’s almost embarrassed. I wonder if his niece knows Fay.
Fay is his niece? Seems far-fetched, but I would love to see that little cutie teen-ager (and I say that entirely In a fatherly way for you nasty minds out there), but I doubt that very highly. Right now though given this is Christmas, it’s Shannon, shopping mall, Shannon being her bratty self, although she is more than that. But to me the big arc point is the comfortable relationship between Jack and Luann. They are so alike, Tara picked up the obvious rerlationship they don’t seem to realize they really have. I think it’s a just a matter of time when this goes to the next level and beyond.
Just a thought: I give even money that Shannon will pick up the real relationship between Luann and Jack, all the while she is whining that they aren’t paying attention to her. From the mouths of babes you know.
It looks like Jack is not warming up to Shannon, so the point of this may be to give Jack another reason to admire Luann that she can deal with Shannon.
Seriously, if I were Luann and babysitting with Shannon, I would get out a dollhouse and a bunch of dollhouse dolls and play with her. Kids will reveal so much when they are playing. I would ask her some very pertinent questions (about the dolls), what the dolls are feeling, why she thinks they are doing some of the things she has them do. It could be very revealing. It would give Luann the opportunity to talk about the dolls and make suggestions what the dolls could do to make their lives better. It could be very interesting.
A 14-year old girl? Get her a nice piece of quality jewelry. This is something she will have for the rest of her life. A birthstone ring, necklace, and/or earrings are nice. A piece of jewelry that reflects her interests or hobbies perhaps (a pet, her favorite sport). 14-year old girls are easy to buy for, now what do you get a 14-year old boy? Seriously, I need to know, I have 2 14-year old grandsons and have no clue what to give them other than cash.
If Shannon was my kid ( My daughter’s name actually is Shannon) I would immediately take her out of the mall and not return until her temper tantrum ceases. That child is trying to take control, and Luann has to put an end to it and let her know who the boss really is. Right now the inmate is running the prison. Let Jack take over.
So, Luann has been in college now for 5 years, going on 6; since 2014. Any chance she might finally graduate with a teaching degree, or even Set Design at some point soon? That university is really making some serious money out of Luann. Seems like Luann has been stuck deep in a repeating rut loop for the past year, not really making much progress into adult life. Is Delta done yet with college by now Maybe she can make a return visit?

Luann is a lot closer in age to 14 than Shannon is. She should have no trouble giving Jack some suggestions.
