Is that Pucky’s arm reclaiming Buzzy Mouse? I feel the same as Lupin, but I also recently read a quote from the Toronto Maple Leafs’ new coach – “If you don’t like change, you’re going to like irrelevance even less.”
We knew that the tape recorder was what Lupin’s defensive sulk was really about, but I love the subtle emphasis on that in the last panel. The other toys are dropped immediately, Buzzy Mouse being reclaimed by Puck is completely ignored, and Lupin clings to the tape recorder as the only possession that matters. Great body language!
Poor lupin! He looks so sad and lost in the last panel. I just want to hug him and tell him it will be ok. You are still loved. You are still an important member of the family. You are still the cat of Adventure ♥️♥️♥️
Natasha’s behaviour is outrageous. Goldie’s theft of the recorder was wrong, but, in the circumstances, forgivable. Natasha stole it from Goldie, and has been holding on to it all this time instead of giving it straight back to Lupin. And now she is trying to make Lupin feel he is at fault for not accepting change. That is unforgivable.
Natasha brings back Lupin’s prized possession, his tape recorder. Change is hard, even for a robber mouse, but she’s trying. Lupin, you can relax now, little buddy.
OT: An update on the six kitties I have previously mentioned…I called the humane society yesterday and they had all been adopted by the 22nd of Dec, after being brought in on the 19th. Fabulous! I will continue to wish them good care and happiness in their lives. thank you kind people for your support.
See the black paw coming in to reclaim Buzzy Mouse? Change is indeed hard, and a lot of us have had more this year than we bargained for.
Other topics:I hope everyone had a good Christmas or holiday if you celebrate. Marie bought me a BCN, Georgia signed print from one of the sales earlier in the year. It is the one where Elvis has to go on the air and apologize for remarks concerning chipmunks. It has Thimble-Fist in it! I am going to frame it and put it over my desk at home. Thank you Marie, it is perfect!
Giblet & Belle, The Case Of The Missing Ring is going to an Editor in January for a continuity edit. It is over 30,000 words and takes the reader from Connecticut, to German occupied France and even ancient Mesopotamia (don’t worry, I was not drunk when I wrote that chapter…I make it work!). I went on Reedsy and after talking to a variety of editors, picked a woman in England to work with. I am paying for this first edit, but the price is reasonable, especially if she makes good suggestions. If I can come up with another 10,000 words, the book can be considered a novel, by industry standards. I am still looking for an illustrator…(Georgia, if you are reading this, I have an idea…) All this, the Editor and such, was started before I lost my previous job, but now I feel I can continue it.
I worked the last two days at the new job, and quite frankly I feel overwhelmed. I am interpreting blue-prints of metal components from various manufactures for a variety of finished products, including automotive, farm equipment and industrial equipment. I can read a blue-print, but it has been 4 decades since I used geometry to try to figure a radius and algebra to figure the gauge, etc. Everyone has been really nice and if they give me time to re-learn things, I know I can do the work. I will keep you posted.
You may have got your tape recorder back but you’d always need to keep an eye on that thief Goldielocks, Lupin. There’s no saying when she will sneak away with something else that belongs to you. Never trust Goldielocks!
Can’t remember who mentioned this, but it appears that the ring (previously thought to be missing) on Buzzy Mouse’s string has returned? Was always there and just unable to be seen? Panel 2 it clearly appears to be a ring of some kind (metal? plastic?)
You know, looking at the first two panels, I don’t think Lupin took Buzzy Mouse; he’s not even holding Buzzy the way he is clutching his ball and the Jingle Fish. In panel one, it looks more like Buzzy is hugging him! Buzzy’s expression even seems to change a little bit when Natasha approaches with the tape recorder, and then a bit more when Puck takes him back. Lupin, you are a lucky cat; you have a lot of friends who care about you a whole lot and want to make your world right again. I hope you recognize that, kiddo!
It has been my experience that people only change if they want to, using “want” as in, “I want to breathe.” Lupin no longer has a motive for anger and hate, but does he have a motive for change? That, I think, is the crucial question.
OT but I keep forgetting to mention this and seeing Lupin with all those toys reminded me. If anyone has cats who take their toys and do terrible things with them like putting them in litter boxes or throwing them in the corner and peeing on them, this is a good help to make them last longer and smell better. Get one of those zippered mesh small bags for washing delicate things and put the toys in it before you clean the floor and run them in the washing machine. They’ll go in the dryer, too, most of them. This isn’t so good for toys full of real catnip but the spray on stuff can just be reapplied after the toys are dry. I have a big cheap but heavy and attractive glass bowl I got at a discount decor store and I put the clean toys in there and the cats like to take them out and throw them. It’s really saved money on cat toys! And you’re going to pick them up before cleaning the floors anyway, so why not? Works really well with pom poms.
With the exception of Buddhist monks and similar beings, everyone tends to possess something that has deep personal meaning to them. There is no logic in this. For a child, it might be a favorite stuffed toy or a blanket. For an adult it might be anything. For Puck it is Buzzy Mouse, for Elvis, Clucky Chicken, for Lupin, his tape recorder. In Lupin’s case, the reason should be fairly obvious: the tape recorder is his ears that hear. I’ll bet it picks up a lot more than Lupin’s jingles for spider treats, and with Puck’s help, it’s a window on the world that he otherwise would not have.
As for Natasha, I think her comment is more companionable than anything else. She has “been there, done that,” is the voice of experience, and Lupin’s friend. There is no condescending, any more that when one of us loses a furperson and almost every one else chimes in with sympathetic versions of “Yes it’s very painful.”
As someone who has, several time in my life, dragged myself by the scruff of the neck into a different world view out of absolute necessity, I know whereof Natasha speaks, and Lupin may need all the help he can get. I’m very much looking forward to seeing how Georgia continues this arc.

Don’t be so condescending, Natasha. Lupin isn’t resisting change per se. He’s trying to defend his home against a thief.
And he still needs to explain to Goldie why he was so hostile, and she still needs to apologise for stealing the tape recorder.
Without these steps, G and L are doomed to stay enemies.
