You’re going to give your parents a bad mood, Calvin, when it comes to tracking the mud into the house. Better go to the backyard and hose off. Then again, the parents’ mood will still be bad when you’re dripping wet through the house.
Calvin treats Hobbs in an obnoxious manner and doesn’t understand why Hobbs doesn’t adore him for it. Calvin refuses to take responsibility for the outcome and still thinks that it is not his fault that the world is against him.
As one of those obnoxious law-abiding motorists, I tend to become annoyed at aggressive drivers. I have started trying to come up with excuses for their behavior. Maybe they are driving their child to the ER?? Maybe their boss said they would be fired if they are late one more time?? Anyway it helps me be more tolerant. : )
Life lesson – Pushing and shoving the world around doesn’t work. The world is bigger and stronger and doesn’t really care about you. Case in point – the current pandemic.

Too bad we can’t all do that at our appropriate moments.

Calvin doesn’t know any swear words? I would’ve thought he elicited quite a few of them from his parents and Rosalyn.

Was Hobbes sleeping outside, or does he keep a mudhole handy indoors?

A six-year-old with a phenomenal vocabulary like Calvin’s, and he doesn’t know any swear words? He obviously knows they exist…

Swear words are a very useful venting device, Calvin… until your Mom (or wife) hears you…!!

You’d think Hobbes throwing Calvin in a mud puddle would cheer him up.

Heh, Calvin DOES know some swear words. Look at the Sunday strips for December 14, 1986, and January 24, 1988!

Calvin should be grateful that Hobbes just gave him a mudbath, and not a “massage” with his sharp, pointy toes.
