Well, sorta. IRL, I believe this is how acceptance started, napping in the same general vicinity.

Love the last panel. When it comes down to it. All a cat needs is his/her 20 hours of sleep. There they are, Lupin and Goldie, sleeping peacefully together on the couch. Cuteness.

They don’t exactly look relaxed in the last panel. But it’s a start. Frenemies might be a stretch at this point.

The Woman tends to err on the side of love and hope. One reason we love her but I agree that frenimies is a stretch at this point.

    Moonlighting Theme by Al Jarreau

    Some run by night

    Some nap by day

    Nothing can change that

Cats who don’t want to play!

    …….

    There is Lupin and Goldie

They meow to their own tune

    The Woman watches them

    Sharing the Red Couch

    …….

    We’ll run by night,

    We’ll nap by day,

    Cat fighting strangers

Working it out on the way!

Goldie reminds me of Baba in that last panel. Considering Baba’s numerous offspring, could Goldie be a great, great, grandaughter?

Anger (and guilt) wears you out. It is possible that they will slowly drift into a relaxed sleep, until one of them wakes up…

Still, they have actually exchanged reasonable – albeit hostile – words. This might lead to Lupin explaining his position, Goldie apologising for stealing the recorder, and Lupin admitting he handled the situation badly. Then they could resolve the problems on the basis of Strict Justice, instead of The Woman’s soppy gushing.

I can only hope. I’m really, really fed up with this.

Our two old girls are about 16 and 17, they’ve lived together for nearly 10 years

None of our girls got along until we had to let the third one go about a year ago

Over the last year Titten and Wicked have become frienemies; they share the couch with as little as a foot between them, play chase, and only occasionally smack each other

Well, this seems familiar. We we had a stray, there was a major war when we were around. Our take was to “let them duke it out as long a the furniture remained intact.” Then we snuck in quietly and found them sleeping holding paws. I KID YOU NOT!! That was also the end of the war.

Hopefully, when they wake up, they will both be in a better frame of mind to communicate. Goldie still needs to understand why Lupin has been so upset and to offer a true apology for her part in it.

I still think Elvis and Puck should admit that they were wrong about the giant orange cat, too. She is real and she lives with them now!

If Lupin closes his eyes then says “Fine” then he gets the last word as he can then neither see nor hear any response Goldie makes.

I have a friend who had indoor/outdoor cats. One day, the biggest cat decided to nap on a flat rock in the sunshine. At the same time, a huge black snake decided the same thing. They eyed each other and realized both were two big to hurt the other with hurting themselves so they each took a far corner of the rock and went to sleep.

When the radius of personal space is under two feet it doesn’t matter too much how they feel about each other. It’s kinda like mutually assured destruction. :-)

My cats Cara and Tar were always at odd with one another. When Elsa died in September, Cara was at a loss since they were best friends. But now, Cara and Tar are sleeping together, cuddling. It’s nice to see. Cats will take what they need when they need it. It will work out.

Hi! New user here. I just discovered Georgia Dunn and her bevy of news cats. I love it! I went back and read all the archives and think I’ll be reading a lot more about the BCN crew from now on. My cat Stormy is a 25 pound fuffapopilis—ten pounds of kitty and 15 pounds of fur. We think he’s mostly Norwegian Forest Cat with maybe a little bit of feather duster tossed in for good luck.

Comment on Facebook from Georgia: “Yes, this really happened. In real life this stare down was most of an afternoon, we finally just let them stare-it-out, and eventually they both fell asleep. As much as they do not entirely get along—they are still each other’s number one nap buddy, and constant companion (I think in part because they still do not trust each other to be out of sight? Wherever one is napping, the other will be 3-4 feet away also napping.”

Cats have to spend non-threatening time in each others sensory-space, if they are ever to get along. That’s why “cat-sperts” recommend introducing a new cat behind a closed door for 24-48 hours, so they can interact, smell and hear each other without threat. DON’T just hand your new cat a tape recorder and microphone and toss them onto the broadcast set.
