Kind of reminds me of my neighbors across the street. They rarely see movement around my house, so they’ve called the police to request a welfare check on me twice in 7 years along with several occasions of asking a couple of their relatives who worked with me or one of my relatives to make sure I’m okay. One such relative has suggested I mail them a weekly picture of myself holding a current newspaper to prove I’m not dead yet.
I used to sneak into the house in the dead of night. Almost always, I made it past our two dogs. The next day, my mom would tell me what hour I came home. According to her, I was being “too quiet”. Arrgh!
Sadly, that is life in America now. In the old days without A/C people would sit out on the porch and the kids played in the front yard. Now people come home, open the garage door via remote, go in, set the alarm system, turn on the entertainment system, and fire up the computer.
This is typical of married life. You do what you do for good reasons, but a different, unexpected good comes from it because it is perceived differently by your partner.
If you have a neighbor close enough to see your window, arrange a simple signal like opening the curtain each morning and closing it at night. I know several people who either do that or they telephone, let it ring a couple of times and hang up. Either way, it only takes a few seconds.
I’m sitting here bundled up drinking my morning coffee, with wind and rain outside and about 63 F here in the house, seeing Arlo sitting there at the table in a T-shirt makes me shiver!
I work nights and sleep off and on through the day. I can sleep through “normal” daytime noises, but when someone is trying to “be quiet and let me sleep” I am disturbed by the quiet.

This happens all the time to my spouse – I must be naturally disturbing.

That didn’t work out so well, but good of him to try.

Nobody goes outside and interacts anymore.

When the kids were being quiet my wife once said: “Where’s that silence coming from?”

One thing I don’t have to worry about, disturbing my wife when she’s sleeping. Once she’s out, she’s out.

If I don’t hear my wife singing, humming or yelling at the tv, I call out to make sure she’s ok…in my house, a quiet wife is unnatural!
