Not only is his revenge plan shaky, it is doomed to failure, and either land him in jail or an early grave – let sleeping dogs lie or you’ll end up getting bitten…
Rather than jump all over Mike for not being “original”…..there have been tons of revenge stories dating back to Gould’s days….Mrs. Pruneface was a great one, for instance……it really comes down to how much suspense can be raised, and how original the revenge plots themselves are…..other than that, you have robberies, scams, thefts….this is Dick Tracy, and thus pretty much the menu…..
All this guy has to do is look up every single bad guy who’s tried to get revenge on Tracy for the death of a relative. I say “tried” because we all know each and every one of those attempts did not end so well…
Wait a minute – if this is the original Shaky’s nephew, why on earth is he dressed (and groomed) 1930s style? Honestly, who wears their hair like that anymore?
Seems the Trembly family is trying for the same deal as the Jones family? Everyone takes their shot at vengeance against Tracy, only to wind up with the family practically extinct?
Heaven forbid if any surviving relatives of the criminals Tracy put away ever get together to file a lawsuit for emotional distress. Of course they would have to sue Tracy and not the whole police department.
As to the idea that this isn’t a original story; we have to remember that there /is no original story plot/ since ancient rome. Star Wars, for example is the Illiad, but with ray guns and FTL ships. I’ve read that, and seen the movie, and can see the similarities. But as I once said in my writer’s group “If you give 1 story idea, to 10 authors, you’ll get 10 stories” It’s what we put into it, that makes the story.
My own storyworlds “Terra and Terra Ragnarok” came from my own imagination, but upon looking at it closely I can see my “Plentycaels” for example are Asimov’s robots but organic, and with fur. My settings; my Appalachian upbringing, the cultural values; from my Cherokee influences.
Yes, there isn’t anything original, but it’s loads of fun to write and create them.
Someone equates this story and others, with the “revenge” story featuring Mrs. Pruneface. Mrs. P was a totally original character, with a good story and a great “Tracy in Jeopardy” sequence. Gould did resurrect some characters like Shoulders and Mumbles, but the explanations for their survival made sense. Flattop Jr et. al, were in the latter, less original Gould era. Let’s see how this newbie shakes out, but I’ll bet it will be no Mrs. Pruneface tale. BTW, if the present guy is a “nephew” why the backstory?
As the CEO of Omni Consumer Products said in “RoboCop2” speaking with Johnson about its aftermath.About the collateral damage caused by his latest cyborg had done;
Johnson: “The cost is going to hurt, sir”
Silverthorn: “What about the cost of the deaths of the people?”
Johnson: “They have relatives.”
Silverthorn: “They always do. " He said with recrimination thinking about the added financial losses to his corporation over this debacle.
And no more crossovers with people who are irrelevant to the story…
Regarding “Shaky” II…I guess that Joe and Mike are trying to satisfy our “nostalgia” for Chester Gould’s villains before they are killed off, in prison, or retired…
Today’s villains aren’t as colorful… Just look at the news reports…
Ever notice in these stories how the “molls” of the villains seem to read more than their significant others? (Like Edison, above…) You’d think they’d have better sense than to hang out with these losers.
Yeah. It was obvious that Shaky and Edison were going to be heading to Tracyville. But it seems a shame that Shaky has no better motive than good old familial revenge.
The Revenge Theme seems rather repetitive in Dick Tracy these days….
have any these idjits ever tried suing Tracy and his department in civil court?
Call Johnnie Cochran !
Edison could be his daughter, who also was a short time love interest to Robosmack. She looks quite young and little girls are always eager to please daddy dearest.

Good morning™, loyal family!
Despite my advice yesterday that the deceased character was not, technically Shaky’s uncle, that’s what Edison calls him.

There is absolutely no more originality in the Dick Tracy strip. Everything is a rehash of previous stories.
’Tis a sad day indeed.

Odd that Mr. Roboto’s girlfriend turns up with Shaky. Assuming it IS the same girl, though how many female Edisons can there be in Tracyville?

Possible continuity twist: didn’t Shaky kill Vitamin’s first wife, Snowflake? The old man might think he’s seen an evil ghost….

2-JOE JACKSON SONNY SR: Yeah. Good stuff but it’s tough to riff off of. I don’t know how long I can keep this up.
MA: THAT’S WHAT HE SAID!

MA: mumble mumble
