1) Bernice goes to the wrong room. The music she’s hearing is coming from another students room, who is either studying OR who left the music playing loudly deliberately to divert Bernice’s attention from the party.
2) Bets calls Tiff and Tiff manages to escape/hide.
3) Bets calls Bernice with a fake emergency, and diverts her attention.
4) Bets/Gunther pulls the fire alarm and everyone manages to beat it in the confusion.
5) Bernice busts everybody but later it’s found out that Kip’s party is well within school boundaries.
6) Bernice crashes the party but Is swept up in the fun and winds up going with the flow.
What SHOULD happen.
7) Gunther says to H3LL with Tiffany. Leads Bets to the sofa and continues making out. This time, uninterrupted.
For Bernice, misdirection. Bets has led her to another room where she turned on the music—loud—and started making out with Gunther, also loud. Bernice split quickly, Gunther put his shirt back on while Bets texted Tiffany.
Re Frame 2: Gunther can’t lie – and he can’t comprehend that anyone else can lie. A big blind spot in the real world. But god bless – he’s got a hot little item…
This must be the highlight of Bernice’s young life, sadly for her. And here we’ve got Gunther, once again wearing his classic hideous green shirt buttoned all the way up, in honor of St. Patrick’s day.
First Gunther has to distract Bernice to keep her from getting to the party, while Bets goes to the party and beats the ever-loving daylights out of the knucklehead who is broadcasting the party and gets him/her to delete the evidence.
Maybe I’m just old. But when I was a sophomore in college, my dorm was known on campus as The Zoo. Someone always had loud music going, they’d open the windows and point the speakers out into the courtyard. No authority figure prowled the hallways wagging their fingers. As long as no drugs or alcohol were involved, if you wanted to party and ended up failing your classes, there was no babysitter to stop you.
Look at Bernice’s stance! Rigid back and determined jaws! She’s so gonna bust the party. Hope G & B texts Tiffany to get out pronto. The thing about dorm room is there is only one door. If Bernice is an experienced RA, she will stay at the door and call security. If she is inexperienced, she will walk into the room and the guests will start running out of the door and disappear. Let’s see how she handles it.
Bernice will find, much to her chagrin, that there are 46 parties going on in the building while she was having the “Study Ball”. It will take her all night to bust them all.
Bernice, to quote Community: “You are the AT&T of people. You are human Tennis Elbow. You are a pizza burn on the roof of the world’s mouth. You are the opposite of Batman!”
Bets’s expression in panel two is one of genuine concern. I wouldn’t be surprised if Greg attempts to redeem her by having her run interference for Tiff.
Be funny if Bernice knocks on the door and finds a resident involved with Piro, who has managed to bum a place to crash. What will Bernice do then? Bust someone for something she did herself?
You know this is a blog party of hatred of comic characters, which really is such obvious, rank projection about how people identify themselves and their lives through characters. I guess stories can be enjoyed that way, but personally I like the story itself. Some people hate Bernice because she takes her RA duties so seriously, party pooper, others distrust Bets as a poseur, and figures she will break up with Gunther, others think Gunther is a spineless wimp, who dresses so cluelessly, and others keep looking at as just a bimbo, a more insulting, non-scatological description of a young woman is hard to make. I think the story is all about duty, caring, trust, and a fragile young woman who is struggling with life where she has to be subject to life’s realities. All told in an HILARITY ENSUES framework. I think the instant issue is whether Tiffany gets rescued by Bets, through media, or Bernice gets misdirected, or something else hilarious happens. That remains to be seen, GnK are infamous with throwing screwballs. But jeez less hate?
I don’t get it. Unless the party is out-of-control, what’s the beef (of course, I attended a party school in the early 70s— so I guess I’m not a good barometer)?
That’s good. The perfect sign of a healthy happy couple working together and concern for each other! Way to go Gun and Bets!!! As for Tiff, Good luck in getting yourself out of this self-destructive-avoidable-mess. Maybe you’ll realize that true friends are worth more than all the riches in the world! Why “Risk” losing them and their trust!! That’s one asset you’ll want to keep!!!
It’s nice to see Greg hasn’t been completely swayed by all the negativity directed towards her all for the HORRIBLE crime of posting too much on Ig. Because, as you know, NO-ONE has EVER done that in the 2000s. No no we young adults keep our internet sharing to a minimum.
I was in a Fraternity, but I still had friends in the dorms. I rarely ever saw a RA. They certainly didn’t have the power to call study halls. I had one friend who had an obnoxious RA, and the guys on the floor penny’d him into his room. (FYI that means jamming a stack of pennies between the door and the door jam and then tapping them down close to the latch creating so much pressure you on the closed door latch you can’t open it.)
I partied like crazy for 2 years, then got serious and barely graduated…from an Ivy League school known for partying. Funny thing, GPAs don’t make it on your degree!
Bernice has absolutely no power against Tiffany being there, and, unless the room is over-crowded by law, she can only ask them to be quieter. And what campus doesn’t have frat houses, etc., to have noisy parties?
You know, Bernice has really found her calling as a boss/supervisor. She’s got a bright future with leadership. She doesn’t back down or look the other way – she should consider the military.
In the last panel,Bernice is walking like Boris Karloff with his makeup on.
Of course,if somebody is passed out on the floor, the party is definitely “out of control”.And after the party is broken up and the room is empty, can I have the leftover pigs-in-blankets?
What wonderful friends! They just found out that Tiffany lied to them and the first thought they have is the risk of her being captured and that they have to save her♡. But, alas, it seems too late for save Tiffany and the parties gang. Bernice will be unstoppable and the heads will roll. And that will become Tiffany’s fault. By the way. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUANN THE STRIP! 35 YEARS OF GREAT STORIES!!!
Finally! One of my predictions was right. I’m overwhelmed. Bern hears the party and Gunther wants to rescue Tiff. The only unanswered question from previous; “Did Tiffany look Buzzed in the vid?”
Now that Tiffany is involved, Bets seems to express an interest in someone other than Gun (ugh!). Similar to when Tiff had financial and class problems.
I’d love to be a fly on the wall when G&K discuss these arcs while incorporating their college experiences, maybe decades apart!? 35 years! WOW! Keep ’em coming!
Everyone’s branding Bernice as the bad guy, when all she wants is to help Tiffany succeed after losing her father (and his money) to Ann Eiffel. Bernice has dealt with Ann before, so she knows what an evil person Ann is. But Tiffany’s father has wrapped himself around Ann’s little finger; it’s Game Over for him.
Tiffany knows she needs to do better with her studies if she’s to move on. She finally realizes that she can create a future in Cosmetics, and wants to start a new business: a sports spa, TiffasNails. But she needs a business degree to make it happen, and while her financial worries may be over (cheaper room, cheaper rate), she still needs to improve her grades.
The main problem now, is all the secret parties going on. All the party-goers expect Tiffany to babysit Bernice while they get themselves wasted. Once Bernice sees the Blackout Party, you can be sure that they’ll blame Tiffany. It won’t even matter that someone else posted the party on social media. It was Tiffany’s job to keep Bernice busy, and she didn’t.
Tiffany’s head will indeed roll. The question is, who will chop it off first?
Stuart Whitman, star of the short-lived (unfortunately) Cimarron Strip, passed away on Monday at 92; and today saw the passing of Lyle Waggoner, who starred in The Carol Burnett Show and Wonder Woman.
I’m really curious here since I never lived in a college dorm. Do RAs in colleges really have the kind of power and authority that it’s being implied Bernice has?
Back in the Neolithic Age, when I was an RA, weekend parties were okay as long as no one got hurt (physically or emotionally) and nothing got trashed. But, they were frowned upon during the week or Sunday night when people were trying to sleep or study. If they didn’t heed my repeated warnings during such a situation, I had the lock key to the floor breaker box with all the rooms labeled clearly. Kind of hard to party with no lights or power.
When I was staying at the UCLA dormitories, I didn’t like RA’s, until I saw one talk a girl out of jumping off of her room’s balcony on the 10th floor.
I agree, luann1212, it’s a comic, and Tiffany’s new trials are the most interesting to me. (Also Les and the kittens and Gunther and Bets’ relationship). And Bernice is an honest, duty bound (maybe a bit too) friend, who cares about her friends, but also the rules of the dorm that she is supposed to uphold. Almost all the characters have a place in the story lines.
