He calls April ‘the Ape’. What a great older brother…not…

as if Michael wants more embarrassment

Why didn’t he call a girlfriend ?

Awwww, Michael looks so endearing. A guy holding a baby is a chick magnet. Too bad he doesn’t realize that. It could change his attitude.

I love April’s expression in Panel Two, where she seems to be thinking, ‘You really haven’t a clue here, have you?’

I laughed at “the ape”. My daughter’s name is April and I chose it thinking no one could make fun of this name. And then my Dad, who liked to shorten names to make nicknames, one day called her “Ape”. We all looked at him and he realized what he had said and how it sounded! He was genuinely embarrassed. Didn’t make that mistake again. And btw, at school, nobody called my daughter “Ape”. They actually called her “Maple”, which she loved and embraced. LOL

Best to keep the guys away from your sister right from the start. Makes things less awkward.

I was an only child, and my kids started staying home when they were 10-14, so they didn’t really need to sit (the youngest actually made lunch for the older ones!), but this is adorable! And I wonder how long the nickname holds- Lynn said last time that readers hated that nickname

Lynn’s Comments: The one time my son babysat a toddler, I was on call. I did the feeding and the changing…and he got the dough!

Michael should’ve called a girlfriend. It could win points when he’s ready to marry.

Considering his slouching and the sloping, sub-human head shape of his, Michael should not be calling anyone else “Ape”!

On the one had, he would loose credibility. On the other hand, Gord would be a distraction from his real responsibility. Good move Mike!

It shows that no matter how parents turn their new baby’s name— backwards and forwards, shortened and lengthened— the kids in the playground, or school, or siblings, will develop their own take on that name that would never occur to an adult.

Eventhough in this case, April was named for the day she was born, and they didn’t go through all that…

I’m sure he’ll do a great job.

My step-son’s daughter got the nickname “Gorilla” (from the pose in one of her baby pictures.) We went to the grocery store once when she’s around 4 and we’re going by the frozen food section and she says “we forgot to get gorilla food!” (meaning the TV dinners for kids.) Had more than a few heads turn at that one.

He should invite girls over. Baby’s are girl magnets.

I wouldn’t leave a goldfish with that kid.
