(Snorts awake, checks the time, shuffles into the Orbsters’ living room, hears the theme music for Our IX Lives playing on the TV … no more empty chairs, goes to stand behind the packed sofa … can’t see a thing … taps a man on the shoulder down front …) “Yeah, I know, you’re ‘not here’, but could you slouch down in your seat just a bit? Your brain is so huge it’s blocking my view of the telly … that’s better … thanks, Robin.”
Ooooh! Paisley backstory! I wonder if she was arrested for trespassing at the haunted observatory, and that’s why she was in jail — where she met Bandit! But they were star-crossed lovers, and never even learned each others’ names! (Which is why Paisley and Angora don’t know how closely their Destinies are intertwined!)
Afternoon soaps tend to have really good writing day to day. It’s the story arcs that are horrible. That’s one of the main reasons I gave up on them. The plots made me howl.
“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant.
We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
We will not solve the problems of the world from the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.
More than anything else, this new century demands new thinking; we must change our materially based analyses of the world around us to include broader, more multidimensional perspectives.”
I get the sense Angora’s regretting accidentally setting off a string of clunky expository dialogue, especially since it has nothing to do with what she wants to talk about.
Just for well, no reason, really, I did a quick 3-card Tarot reading for Angora with my brand new cat tarot deck:
Card 1 (her past): The Fool. “Like a cat forced to wear accessories, we all feel foolish sometimes. This card…reminds us that trailblazers needn’t worry about the opinions of others. Cat-like curiosity is your guide.”
Card 2 (her present): Temperance. “Temperance reminds us that nothing is more satisfying than self-restraint… Moderation in all things… Go with the flow, not the trickle, not the flood. Patience can get results.”
Card 3 (her future): Queen of Pentacles. “The Queen of Pentacles portends great tidings ahead but as always, it takes both intelligence and diligence. The Queen of Pentacles is nurturing, supportive, strong, loving, creative and successful, thanks to her paws-on approach to the tasks in front of her. She’s incredibly astute and willing to keep at it until the treat is out of the maze. If she sounds ideal, that’s because she is.”
Those interpretations are from the guidebook that came with the deck. Deck and book are by Megan Lynn Kott. Adorable, clever, whimsical and humorous!

Well Ms. Dunn, if you read all of these comments, they should provide a very interesting read for you today. We’ve covered just about every topic in the universe. Well, maybe not every topic, but you get my drift. LOL. For as long as it takes to read the strip and comments, it is almost like watching a very entertaining television program. Your artwork is really lovely and well done, by the way.
Today is Cellophane Tape Day, a necessity to repair all the crashed paper airplanes from yesterday …
Cellophane is made from “regenerated” cellulose (hence its name). If formed into a fiber, it is rayon. This is really sweet: Cellophane, rayon, and their precursor, cellulose, are all polymers of glucose (sugar), and thus biodegradable.
Cellophane has low permeability to air, oils, greases, bacteria and water, though it is highly permeable to water vapor. Coating the material with a nitrocellulose lacquer greatly reduces the permeability to water vapor. (By the way, another name for nitrocellulose is gun cotton.) Cellophane and rayon are also highly flammable unless treated, having ignition temperatures slightly higher than paper (451°F).
The manufacturing process involves toxic and hazardous chemicals, particularly carbon disulfide, which is both toxic and highly flammable.
Any cellulose can be used to produce it. Recently bamboo has become a source. Fabrics made from processed bamboo cellulose are often marketed as “bamboo” fiber. If produced in the US, this labeling is illegal, but in some countries it is not. At least bamboo is a highly renewable resource.
Perhaps we will see if cellophane wrappers can go in our compost bin. Less in the landfill, more tomatoes in the garden.

I love the soap opera trope of backstory exposition dialogue of the sort that would never occur in real life.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Maat-Tilda: I love this new fabric we’ve created, Arachna. It’s good we solved the stickiness problem.
Arachna: I think we should make the fabric multi-colored, maybe with swirly patterns throughout. Maybe I could weave some patterns into the fabric.
Maat-Tilda: Great idea. Now, where can I find some bright pigment?
Tabith-Isis: I have just the thing for the red. I just caught some really bright dots.
Arachna: That’s great. Now I wonder if Elvis-Anum would let us have some of his inks.
In the Royal Library
Elvis-Anum: So you want to take some of my ink to create a new fabric?
Maat-Tilda: Yes, we can create a new tunic for you that will be the envy of all who see you.
Elvis-Anum: Well, I was rather dashing in my dancing-corsair days.
Maat-Tilda: Oh, thank you so much, Royal Scribe.
Back at the Royal Stage
Lupinium: This fabric is great! It’s strong, and I can use it in my acts. What do you call it?
From Backstage: Oh, no! One of the costumes is missing.
Lupinium: Quick Maat-Tilda, can you do your magic?
Maat-Tilda: I sure can try.
After the Latest Installment of It’s a Wonderful Nine Lives
Lupinium: That was a lovely outfit, my psychic friend. It became you so well.
Queen Catshepsut The Golden: I think it should be named in your honor, fine actress. What is your name?
Actress: Pais-Leprent, Your Majesty.
The Queen: Paisley Print! So be it!

Light (light) enlightening say
In her very bright (bright)

Oh, yes I will make it now – she’s never wrong
All the uncertainty will disappear
Here are the answers I’ve been longing for
It’s gonna be an insightful
