A comedian once noticed that people still point to their wrists to ask “what time is it?” even in these days when everyone gets the time from their phones.
He then went on to wonder why they don’t make an equivalent gesture for “I need to use the bathroom”.
There is a reason for that. It has been shown that when you cross a threshold, your mind sorta resets itself to a new environment. This is why we forget what we came for when we move into another room. If you repeat to yourself what it is you were looking for while crossing the threshold, your mind will include that in the reset. Making a motion mimicking the use of the object you are looking for will do the same thing.
That’s just silly. Opal knows exactly where the new toilet paper is – where she always puts it after buying it. It’s Earl who probably wouldn’t know where to look if the roll in the bathroom ran out. And I bet he wouldn’t go looking so he could replace it either. Scissors, on the other hand, you carry about with you to use in different places and heavens knows where you last put them down.

I mimic “TP” with the same motion as “make it rain”: https://i0.wp.com/writesomeshit.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/michelle-obama-make-it-rain.gif
‘Cause that’s how I do my TP….

I think she would mimic the motion of unrolling, Earl.

I assumed she was mimicing scissors so she wouldn’t forget what she was looking for.

She mimics cleaning her glasses. At least that’s the motion I would use.
