You can tell this cartoon came out 30 years ago. If a 6-year-old kid had been left alone in a car in a parking lot in 2020, Mom would’ve been greeted by cops and CPS workers when she got back from the store.
The concerned citizen has become more aware of kids and pets in parking lot cars. Unfortunately there is that element that can not discern what is safe and what needs intervention.
My experience was to be met by a store employee when I returned as she was walking away from my car. She told me that a woman had reported my us because our dog was in the car. They told her that they did not believe security or the police were needed.
It was 70 deg, all windows were 4” down, and the roof was retracted two feet. Plus we were getting shade on the back half of the car because we had a space against the building. Sometimes saner heads do prevail.
Flying: hours and hours of boredom punctuated with moments of sheer terror.
It would always upset my passengers when I’d stand the plane up on a wingtip and yell, “Tora, tora, tora” just before entering a vertical dive. I miss standing on the rudder pedals, watching the altimeter unwind like a cooling fan.
And now you know why I don’t fly for the airlines. I don’t like to fly straight and level – they prefer I would not do otherwise.
Love today’s example of a child’s imagination. Reminded me of a time my first son, at age 4, recounted his fight with a bear on the levee behind our house. Miss that little guy.
I was in the one coming in for a landing in Cleveland. We had to do a quick aborted landing. The pilot came on to explain what had happened and she was NOT happy.
Mr Watterson loves to draw, that’s obvious, and it’s a treat when he really lets himself go on the Sunday comix, all the detail and complex perspective and so on and on.
Come on now folks. Do you think some idiot is going to read a comic and then deduce it’s okay to leave your toddlers alone in a car while they toss back a couple cocktails?

I love the attention to weird, small details – the stewardess- frilly slip.

LOL! With a couple of small toys and a huge imagination Calvin is having a blast! Reminds me when I could do the same thing!

“Gun the engines.”
I wonder if that expression appears anywhere in official pilot training manuals?

Looks like Calvin has a DC-10 and a 727… but that 727 looks pretty huge vs. my memories of riding in them long, long ago… ;-)

Do they have booster seats in airplane cockpits?
JoJoline about 4 years ago
If the other aircraft is cleared to land on the same runway he’s taking off from, it would be behind him, not coming towards him. Not a problem.

That plane is an MD-11 (I already geeked out about this plane on another strip and I don’t wanna put in effort)
