Before the asteroid impact theory was accepted by most Paleontologists, I had a Professor that thought the more likely one was that they all died from Hayfever since flowering plants appear in the Geologic record about the same time as the Dinosaurs disappeared.
That was the main reason, along with the massive release of methane from the Siberian traps on the opposite side of the world. And maybe something else unknown.
