There should have been a Ralph Phillips cartoon (I think there was only ever two) where he was doing a class test and this happened, to show the young viewers back in the 1950s the dangers of excessive daydreaming. Though I guess in that case Looney Tunes would have looked like it was getting into social guidance films.
I wish there were an educational track that could nurture and celebrate Calvin’s creativity and imagination, while at the same time teaching him basic skills…
Did Calvin remember NOTHING about what his dad told him the previous day? I honestly can’t even comprehend not getting basic addition, it is literally just being able to count, just not starting from “1.” I don’t want to flex how good a student I was in elementary school, but stupidity of this level is too frustrating to be humorous, it passes the level of “this is an energetic but lazy kid” and goes into “this kid has an actual learning disability.”
Sigh Why did Bill Watterson have to retire? I loved him and when I found out that he retired I was devastated, I wish he was still writing. At least make a Calvin and Hobbes show, at least it lasted a while. Good times, good times……

Well Calvin, look at this way. Now you are left with only one big problem to solve.

See what happens when you spend a whole week on just the first problem. Better bust open that piggy bank and get that quarter out.

Maybe…but according to Calvin’s theory, when 5 and 6 collide, the correct answer is -1

According to some ‘intellectuals’ 2 +2 = 5, so Calvin may be on to something. Orwell is rolling over in his grave.

Calvin doesn’t need good math skills. He can hire an accountant once the money starts rolling in from selling screen plays.

Calvin will grow up to invent a “new math” in which 5+6=6 and be honored as a great thinker.
