OT: Thank you to all Orbsters for your prayers and good vibes for me. First chemo session was today. So far, no side effects. Fingers crossed that there will be none. Next one on 10/26. Love you all! ♥
So much sass in such a little package. I don’t know which is more adorable—that poofy pointy tail, those toe bean laden paws, or that sweet little face.
Didn’t mean to time it this way, but in real life The Girl and I got our flu shots today! (The Man and the Boy are getting theirs later in a day or two). Art accidentally imitating life!
This is my go-to gag whenever I get a shot or a needle stuck in me: I’ll wait until they’re done, and then say, “Any time you’re ready.” For my flu shot last week, it was so painless and seamless I didn’t even realize it was in until he was almost done anyway, so that joke REALLY worked!
“Ok, I love you again!”—LOL! That is so true. They get sooooo mad at the vet and on the drive back, but as soon as tuna or treats are produced at home, it’s all ankle rubs and big purrrrrs.
I live on the front range in colorado the northern Denver area close to the mountains, It has been smokey for most of the summer, it’s not going away, I have been hoping for a large rainstorm or snowstorm to put it out but no luck so far, I hope that wherever you are you don’t have to deal with both Covid and smoke that forces you to be inside and not go out and run or ride bikes.
Hello everyone! Please get your flu shots. The virus is “dead” (viruses are not really “alive”) when it is used in a vaccine. People’s worries and misunderstandings of vaccines always makes me think of an illustration in my high school biology book satirizing Pateur. Remember he developed a vaccine for smallpox from observing how milk maids did not seem to get it because of their exposure to a similar virus, cow pox. The picture was of a patient getting vaccinated and having little cows erupting all over his body. Ridiculous. It’s even more important this year because we do not want to risk overwhelming the medical system again and none of us want to have Covid19 and the flu at the same time. Being safe protects not only you, but everyone else.
Not that it’s a shot, but my 15-year-old girl has hyperthyroidism, and I have to give her a pill twice a day. She refuses to “eat” it (it’s bitter) hidden in anything, so every 12 hours, I grind the 5mg pill up, add 3 ml of water, mix thoroughly, and draw it up in a syringe. Then I squirt it down the back of her throat, and offer her lobster or chicken chips and/or cat nip… She’s not happy, but is getting used to it – after 6 months…
Way back when I was in the Navy, one day my Pyewacket (RIP) had a vet appointment right after work, so I was still in uniform when I took her in. The vet took her into the back for some shots; when they brought her back, he said, “Did you know, she swears like a sailor!”
Charlie Brown Day —The day “Peanuts” was first published in 1950. Good grief, Great Pumpkin!
National Diversity Day —The United States is supposed to be a melting pot, not a stew of the immiscible. There is nothing ambiguous about “We the people.”
World Day for Farmed Animals —And they have something they’d like to say: “Moooo,” “Baaaa,” “Gruoink!” “Buc buc bucaaww!” “Quack!” “Honk,” “Chitter-chitter,” “Quabble-quabble,” “Heeeeyawww!” “Whinny,” “Neigh!”
Now that they have left, it is fortunate that today is also:
National Custodial Worker Day —All bless the cleaners of this mess!
National Name Your Car Day —Supposedly, twenty-five percent of people name their cars. I am very sure that is a very low estimate, because it leaves out what is probably the most popular name: “God ∂@^#&3& piece of (protofertilizer)!” However, that is sort of like calling a car, a car. My first car was a red bronze color, named “Mnementh,” after the bronze dragon in Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffery. A … vehicle … I didn’t own but did drive was known as “The Millennium Pumpkin,” an old, orange, International truck. Amazing none of us died in that thing (Yes, we were braver than we thought.) What do you call your cars (besides the obvious …)
National Fried Scallops Day —Just thinking about this makes me hungry. Talk about blue-eyed wonders! If you are ever served scallops and the fibers run cross ways instead of vertical, it’s ray, not scallop—as I learned in the undergraduate cafeteria in college, where the fibers always ran the wrong way. I never met a real scallop I didn’t like. Question for Robin and our other friends from down under: Are scallop pies made with scallops, or are they named for their shape? If the latter, what do they contain?
I didn’t get one last year. I don’t know about this year. Someone needs to take me to a pharmacy. I don’t worry about getting the flu since I don’t go out or go anywhere. And, I haven’t caught a cold in 8 years. I think it’s mainly because I haven’t taken public transportation which is a petri dish of diseases.

Vanessa Carlton: A Thousand Miles
Gettin’ my chip downtown
Feeling betrayed by my friend, will this week end?
Starin’ blankly ahead, just feeling like heck!
Where is my favorite clowder?
And I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder
If I run from all this poop,
Do you think I could find my group?
‘Cause you know I’d climb a thousand miles
If I could just see you tonight.
…….
It’s always times like these when my human friends
Make me wonder if what they are thinking now
‘Cause everything’s so wrong and this is not how
It is in my memory
…….And I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder
If I run from all this poop,
Do you think I could find my group?
‘Cause you know I’d climb a thousand miles
If I could just see you tonight.
I let my Woman know just how I feel
My favorite Vet, it just seems so unreal
I, I don’t
Gettin’ my chip downtown
Make it fast, wait, it’s all past? We’ll soon be homebound
Purrin’ at my Vet, just making my way
Makin’ my purr sound so loud
…….And I still love you
And everything’s find
And now I wonder
If I could talk to all the Guys (and Goldie)
Do you think we could just pass some time?
‘Cause you know I’d walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you
And I could play with
You Guys!
