Shirley Temple….I barely remember Shirley and I’m 77 years old. But I gotta admit they do make a Duo. Elvis is SO skeptical but hey, they are just adorable!
Thanks to TV, Shirley will continue to be enjoyed by children for generations to come. I can still remember the disappointment when mom told me that the “old” lady (probably not even 30 at the time) who was hosting “the Shirley Temple Theater” on TV was Shirley herself and that the movies had been made a long, long time ago.
OT, to Bill Jackson, what a season! Your address seems to be at the top of the list. How many tracks like this have we seen this year, five or six? Be safe, prayers for you and your family.
As I think of the movie “Hocus Pocus”… where the young girl insists that she and her brother dress in matching themed costumes for the next year. Kudos to the Woman for letting the children be their own individual selves! It helps to develop a child who will work hard to do things their own way.
Now Elvis, your voice says one thing, but your ears say something different. I sense conflict within you.
(And insisting that your kids dress as a coordinated pair almost always leads to, “That year I wanted to be a __________, but Mom insisted that I had to match my sister/brother, so I had to go as a ___________! I got a lot less candy that year because of it, too!”)
Cool nostalgic costume for the girl toddler! That is definitely a blast form the past. Very cool.
When she was real young my daughter Amy was Dora the Explorer and Ariel from the Little Mermaid while one of her cousins was Pocohontas and her best friend Brandy was Pippi Longstockings (with fiery red hair). As she became a teenager she got into anime and often dressed up as “Sailor Moon” or one of the other popular anime characters from the Manga world and as a college student in graphic arts I know that anime (which she loves to draw) and graphic arts are still a focus in her life as is cosplay so if there was not a pandemic she would definitely have been in costume this Saturday….
on a totally unrelated note, today is crunch day for making my little brother and I’s costumes. also…Poll: are you dressing up this year? what are you going as?
When Daughter One was about 10, her costume was Ariel, the little mermaid. I made it, and she was happy. Hubby took one look at her and said, “Those are the most useless seashells I have ever seen!”
Im not sure what happens this year on halloween, but the costumes are nice. Seemms parents spend more time with thier kids these days. Maybe some good can come out of all this
Shirley Temple! I feel like I shouldn’t know about her, considering I’m a high schooler, but then again my sister is in theatre so I guess it’s a given.
When Bill Jackson shared the photos the other day of his birthday gifts I saw that you could put the Peep Toad print on shirts and it mad me wonder if you could do that with other ones. So far it doesn’t seem like it, at least not with the ones I checked, but I did notice for those who want a BCN face mask you can put the peep toads on a face mask, though because it wasn’t sized for a face mask you either will get a mask that is mostly white or you have to adjust the image so you only get part of it.
I love Elvis’ expression in the last panel, he’s so blase and world-weary.
Off topic: I have a day off from home schooling today as great-granddaughter is feeling ickly.
Worriedly off topic: I know shaunnmunn has been away for a long time, but has anyone heard from her sister, lalybarger? Lady Bri and I and a couple of others are very worried about them both. If anyone out there has any info, please let us know. Thanks in advance.
There was a revival of Shirley Temple movies on VHS in the 90’s. My friend had three girls and they were enamored of Shirley Temple. I am a “boy mom” so I was surprised.
Separation of Church and State Day: This separation should be absolute, as taught by history—and it obviously isn’t. The old motto of the United States was “E Pluribus Unum” (Out of many, one.) We would do well to remember the old motto in these excessively divisive times.
International Animation Day: So be full of life and vigor! Animate your fellows! And by the way, you cartoonists and animators: You animate everyone (one way or the other). Keep up the good work! (Waves with great animation: Hi Ryan!)
Plush Animal Lovers Day: It’s 10pm. Do you know where your teddy bear is? Did you know cats and dogs have tails because they don’t have a plush stuffed animal to cuddle? I read it on FacePlant … Well, our Waffle very much appreciates his “teddy-tail,” so perhaps it’s true. Perhaps it is also true that if stuffed animals are loved enough, they are reborn a real animals. No wonder we have so many cats and dogs.
National Chocolate Day: “Food of the gods, man! Food of the gods!”To quote Sandra Boynton, in Chocolate, the Consuming Passion, “The greatest tragedies were written by the ancient Greeks and Shakespeare. Neither knew chocolate.” However, it is possible that Shakespeare did, though it was very rare during his lifetime in Britain.
There are three beans of worth in the world: coffee beans, cacao beans, and human beans. Note the latter is in a distant third place. Was there life Before Coffee? Yes, but primitive. Was there life Before Chocolate? Yes, but it wasn’t worth living.
This little one was found with her paws & tail frozen to the wheel of a semi-trailer – her rescuer crawled under (in 20-degree F weather) & spent 20 minutes with warm water freeing her, then took her to a local rescue society to be treated. She’s now kinda famous, being featured on just about every TV station in Denver!
I will assume The Girl has fallen in love with the frequent classic movie showings of The Little Princess and Wee Willie Winkie and The Little Colonel.

Looking cute the two dressed up all day!

Cat reporters everywhere
Roses of robots full the air
And there they are
With a grumpy cat superstar!

We’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day
When it’s cold outside, we’ve got the month of May
Well I guess cats’d say
What can make us feel this way?
The Girl (the Girl, the Girl)
Talkin’ ‘bout The Girl (Elbiff’s girl)
She’s got so much cuteness that pandas envy her
She sings a sweeter song than the Temple named Shirl
Well I guess cats’d say
What can make us feel this way?
The Girl (the Girl, the Girl)
Talkin’ ‘bout that l’il girl (such curls!), ooh
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Ooh, yeah
