What a tribute to the Great British Bake-off! Love ❤️ the sweaters, and the lovable weirdos wearing them, the hard to please Elvis in a role he was meant to play, and last but certainly not least, acclaimed foodie, Puck. Let the games begin!
Never watched the show. And we’re not talking ‘Robin doesn’t watch Our IX Lives’ type never watched here. I’ve never been remotely interested in it. But I’ll probably watch this this week. Only takes a minute of my day.
Remember Burt – you’ve got to get a shot every time the Woman either puts something into or takes something out of the oven. Also try to be cat-on-the-spot if anything is spilled or if glassware explodes.
I’m going to have to send this one to my mom. She is a big fan of this show. Somehow various cooking implements from it always end up on her Christmas list…this year it’s “a zester like the ones on the show” and “a tiny Mason Cash bowl”. One of these things was a lot easier to find than the other (but I found it)!
I like the show, but I enjoy Paul and Mary’s master classes more. Its always fun watching him sneaking bits of stuff while they trade off on who’s making what. Beammeup really enjoys the show and will be happy once we can finally set our TV back up so we can watch on PBS.
Here’s a link from Reddit that includes a whole passel of various baking show episodes – American, British, Canadian, Australian, Irish, South African, New Zealand, Kenyan and special episodes featuring UK celebrities baking for Comic Relief and Stand Up to Cancer. There are also seasonal themed episodes with Paul Hollywood & Mary Berry, An Extra Slice, The Professionals and Creme de la Creme. I haven’t watched them all but it’s nice someone took the time to compile and make these accessible!
OMC! Georgia has done it again. Bake Off is one of my all-time favs. I love the handshake reference, and those sweaters are perfect. Now I will always think about BCN when I watch TGBBO.
I think I am just melting away from all the super cuteness today. And everyday. I just can’t get enough of this. I have lost count of all the times that I come back everyday.
Paul Hollywood is a rank amateur at being aloof and cranky compared to Master Elvis. Elvis was born to be a disdain pro!! (Can’t you just see Elvis circling the proffered bake goods, sniffing… Then turning around and digging imaginary sand on to the hopeful baker’s creation?)
Have a Bad Day Day: A reaction to the now trite, “Have a nice day,” this has now been extended by popular demand to cover all of 2020. Hork.
Appropriately— World Toilet Day: The world could certainly use a good flushing … Actually, this is intended to promote good sanitation worldwide, something most people in the Western world take for granted—but should not. On a lighter note, Thomas Crapper did not invent the toilet, he was a leading manufacturer, and held nine patents for various improvements. Note also that his name was not “John.” There is another reason to respect the toilet: Geologically speaking, we do not exist yet. This is because we are rarely in places where we are likely to be fossilized. While some of our high technological materials, such as some plastice have very long persistence in the environment, it is not sufficient to insure preservation in the geologic record. Toilets and urinals do. Perhaps it is fitting that they be the lasting monument to our species and its “civilization.”
Play Monopoly™ Day: “Day?” Don’t Monopoly™ games go on for weeks? Has anyone actually ever finished one?
National Play Bagpipes Day: The bagpipe is ancient and global, not just Scottish. The piper will not play, nor pass “Go,” until paid $200 … One must always pay the piper, or one will be reduced to strangling a pig.
Use Less Stuff Day: What is this stuff? Who’s stuff is it? Is it The Right Stuff, or the wrong stuff? Is it necessary stuff? (In which case use more!) Is it valuable stuff? Perhaps it is the stuff of legends, or maybe technical stuff, scientific stuff, cooking stuff, or some other stuff. Maybe we should just stuff it. Now it is a question of where to stuff it, because every available place to stuff it is already stuffed with stuff.

We’re baking away
I don’t know what, I must say
I’ll taste it anyway
Today’s another day to find you
Baking away
I’m egging you on with love, okay?
Bake with me (bake with me)
Cake or bun (take just one)
It’ll be gone
In a day or two
So needless to say
I’m your biggest fan
And I’ll be talking away
Slowly telling you it’ll be okay
Say after me
It’s no batter to be safe than sorry
Bake with me (bake with me)
Take it on (take it on)
You’ll be done
In a day or two
(Pal Waaktaar / Morten Harket / Magne Furuholmen – Take On Me)

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Thomios: For this year’s Gratitude Feast, I will feature the baking of several notable cats. First up, Beatrixia.
Beatrixia: I’ve created a savory salmon pie with kibble crust and a spider treat topping.
Thomios: Wonderful. Next up, Tabith-Isis.
Tabith-Isis: This is my splatberry salad with red dot dressing.
Thomios: Both delicious and good for you. And now, the Royal Procurers.
Violet-Ifa: We have a special cheese cake, what else?
Thomios: And these are just a small sample of the offerings for the Gratitude Feast. Even facing great adversity there is so much to be faithful for.
