They have Shannon for their kid-related humor. They won’t be needing a new one for a very long time. Besides which, if there’s a kid growing up in the strip, that means time is visibly passing with no hint of when Luann and the others might possibly graduate.
Well no Thanksgiving dinner at the Grey’s house as some of you predicted. Jumped to Brad and Toni. Well. Still saying “not yet,” aren’t you, Toni. If you truly don’t want kids and are just stringing Brad along, cut the rope off and let him go. You saw that he’d be a great dad from seeing him around Shannon. It is not fair to hold him back and wait for you when you will never give him the kids he wants. You can find someone who is as content without kids as you are and be just Shannon’s uncle. Brad adores Shannon but you know he wants his own.
Strange arc that started when Gunther was about to pick a fight with Les after hearing a catcall as Bets was leaving. G & K are kinda coasting – it’s time for another plot.
I realize that Toni is only in her early 20’s. However, if she is still saying “not yet” when she hits 50, then we will know she has been stringing Brad along as Capricorn9th says above. While I would never push someone into a situation they would not be comfortable in, I made sure that whether children would be in the picture or not was a subject that was brought up early in the relationship.
.
Unfortunately, even if the strip ran on the same time we do year for year, most of us will never find out as we will be dead by the time Toni turns 50…
I suspect when Brad and toni get home, she’s gonna get in the same position she is in panel 3. But they won’t be alone when they get home. A couple needs privacy to make whoopie and they don’t that at home.
We have been traveling along at a leisurely pace since Tiffany drove Ann Eiffel out of her dad’s mansion. Short arcs with many characters. Maybe Greg is testing the chemistry and appeal of his cartoon “people.”
And here we have more confirmation that Toni’s “not yet” from yesterday meant just that, “not yet,” contrary to all those who seemed to assume that it meant “not ever.” And to be clear, I’m not implying that there’s anything wrong with people who decide “not ever.”
Also, contrary to those who worry that Brad and Toni didn’t have this discussion before they were married, I believe these strips suggest that they did:
https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2016/03/27
https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2016/10/14
They probably didn’t decide just how long they’d wait, and I’m not ready to hazard a guess either. (Will Shannon be old enough to babysit?)
Contrary to my prediction from a few days ago the arc didn’t segue into interaction between Brad and Les, Gunther, Irma, and/or Al—or at least not very much, just the chit-chat the characters engaged in while Les was waiting on the roof and Brad’s observation of Les’s paternal behavior toward Punk.
My prediction that Brad and Toni aren’t headed into a major argument about when to start a family seems secure, but what will happen on Friday and Saturday? Since it’s still Thanksgiving Day in the Luanniverse, and since the Luanniverse is COVID-free, perhaps B & T will end up at a big family Thanksgiving dinner that’s warmer than the one they had in 2009. Or maybe they’ll end up a small Thanksgiving event that’s quite a bit hotter than the one they had in 2013. Or …?
Of course, there are those who say ”yet” when they really mean ”nyet.” Say ”no” now and they’re gone; say ”not yet,” and you can wear them down.
Not that Toni is doing that, but then, no real evidence either way.
On the other hand, since the only 100% effective birth control is abstinence, and it is implied that they are not abstaining, I guess that gives G&K the opportunity to introduce that almost inevitable ”mistake.”
Okay, I am vindicated. I have no child hating genes in me, but I know that should be a decision that those in a committed relationship, whether made legal by state law ceremony or not, make as a committed couple who love each other and share. All this absolutely silly child hatred stuff, or empty women’s lib protestations aside (I honestly think some of the one’s here saying it’s her decision and Brad should leave her alone don’t understand the first thing about women’s liberation, or positions as equal persons individually or as a couple, including same sex) but I have been yelling in the wind here that she did not say she did not want a child, but she is not ready for one YET, and BRAD IS NOT HARASSING HER ABOUT IT. If some of the comments about this whole topic in this strip and with these two characters are not examples of projection, nothing is; plus I like the misdirection of the arc. We got to see a warmer Les, and Punk is always nice, and even a bit of Bets. Warm and fuzzy with that vindication am I. Al Grey and Irma and pumpkin pie.
Funny = I (Dad) got morning sickness weeks before my wife realized she was pregnant with our middle, boy, child. A, chip, off the old block, I’d say. That was really weird. Hmmmmm ?
When someone is continually bringing up a subject (but in a nice way) they are making sure they can’t be accused of starting a fight but they are making life incredibly uncomfortable nonetheless – after awhile you know that’s what they are thinking ALL THE TIME and then you’re put in a position of always waiting for it to come up again. It’s tiresome, and really aggravating, and I would call them on it. It’s a sleazy, subtle form of harassment for sure.
Putting aside the baby discussion does anybody else think whatever Brad is wearing , a jacket or sweater that it looks like he took it out of Toni’s closet ?
Since the arc about strip budgeting years ago it’s been the same gag; over and over. “Brad and Toni are doin’ it but not makin’ it. Tee hee.” Why do GnK not come up with something new. Maybe they should consult with Jimmy Johnson over at Arlo and Janis for lessons on married adult humor.
Send him off to Rent-a-Brat to get a few of those ‘angelic’ terrors for a month or so; if he doesn’t require serious therapy afterwards he’s probably psycho. Divorce and try again.
Reading the range of remarks re the Brad/Toni “not ready yet” banter, it’s easy to see how different folks would take it different ways. I take the third approach; “repetition breeds disinterest.”
That being said. Toni’s opening remark would indicate (in a real world) that she is aware of Brad’s repetitive innuendoes about offspring. Pretty soon (in a real world) they will become irritating.
“I’m OK with yet.” Means it a qualified “OK.” So he’s not totally “OK” with it.
The author(s) of the strip are obviously satisfied with their offspring status and think this is “cute married couple banter.” It was. But it’s wearing thin.

Take a GOOD look at today’s Strip all you who said Brad was “pressuring” Toni and she should divorce him.
So let’s examine that. Why shouldn’t Toni divorce/dump Brad? After all he’s only:
1) A guy who listens to his wife.
2) A guy who puts his wife and her desires and her “feelings FIRST, ahead of his.
3) A guy who happily deals with his wife’s issues. (Re: Baggage) without complaint.
4) A guy who still opens doors for his wife even after four years of marriage.
5) A guy who’s fiercely loyal to his wife, no matter what.
6) A guy who, once saved Toni’s life. And if it hadn’t been for him, Toni would either be a paraplegic or DEAD.
7) A guy who’s light years ahead of Toni previous “Guy.”
So Yeah. I can “certainly see” why some of you “folks” think they should Spilt. (Heavy Sarcasm Off)
Actually I don’t. You negative Nellies should hang your heads, take the walk of shame and report to the torture chamber. ;)
And PS. Toni owes Brad something. Maybe not a kid. Maybe not yet. But she definitely Owes him. BIG time.
