One of the men who worked in a different region of Arizona than I did suffered a retinal tear and was out for six weeks while it healed. (He was also supposed to refrain from driving his work truck over rough roads, that being the most likely cause of the tear, but he didn’t take that seriously.) After he had been back a few weeks, he wrote in the station log at one site, “Today is the first day of the rest of my life.” Alrighty then.
How quickly peace and calm can change to fear and dread. One creature’s fear is another creature’s joy. Afterwards perhaps (dinosaur to fish), “Oops. Sorry ’bout that.”
Today’s strip just gives me a chill. Last week, my best friend started the day like that fish – had a massive stroke, and all he can move are his eyes. Doctors say chances of recovery are slim to none.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life, but that says nothing about how long your life will be.

1) Looks like today is the only day of the rest of his life.
2) The day you retire is the first day of the rest of your life. (Or so they say.)

This has been a year for the ages. I just hope that we can look back on it, and say that it’s good that it’s gone, and not coming back.
